AmRealFae

AmRealFae is an invisible oddity in The Hive, one whose existence within the lair bothers quite a few of the other occupants. He approached the Glade and requested entrance in extremely broken Draconic, setting the guards on edge because the air in front of them just talked, but before anything could be done, the Fae swarmed into the lair for the evening and swept him up with them. It took several hours before anyone noticed AmRealFae, and he was beginning to fear that no one would before Moss flew straight into him and, from The Hive’s point of view, collided with empty air. The entire Roost burst into chattering, and he escaped as quickly as he could, very uncertain about all the tiny dragons and their loud voices. He spent days trying to figure out how to approach the clan again before landing on the perfect solution-an outfit to express his Fae-ness.

AmRealFae began by crafting his Fae mask and feathered wings, approaching the clan in nothing else but those pieces. While the two Mirrors on guard duty, Marrow and Keithia, were still highly suspicious, MurkyWaters vouched for him and swept him into the lair.


AmRealFae communicates primarily in squeaks and scrabbling sounds despite his tenuous grasp on Draconic, which only encourages the belief from outside The Hive that he is something other than a dragon. No one dares address it, however, as the last Imperial who did had been swarmed by the entirety of The Hive before AmRealFae’s first sad, lonely squeak had ended. The most commonly held belief is that he’s some sort of rat or other rodent, which is only further believed due to the way rat-shaped familiars flock to him. Again, no one dares utter this belief in earshot of any Fae, but it’s still whispered from time to time.

When members of The Hive are questioned as to their acceptance of AmRealFae, they will often turn, look at him for a long moment, turn back to the dragon asking the question, and respond with some variation of “Ehhhhhhhhh…looks close enough.”

AmRealFae gathered his current outfits-minus the mask and wings-through the help of the Fae in The Hive, with Concerto making many of the more complex pieces and Aether sharing some of his ribbons. The locket he received much later, after Zinfandel joined the clan and took a liking to him. While AmRealFae was already positive that he had found his home, their generosity and kindness sealed it for him, and he vowed to do his best to help his newfound family of tiny dragons.

AmRealFae excels at scavenging, bringing home far more material than any other dragon in the lair, but he is also far less discerning, often considering springs and pieces of brightly colored fabric of equal value to gold and eggs. His Roost within the home roost (which was made by Xenia when it became clear that he would not make his own) is constantly cluttered and overflowing with any number of things, which many of the Faes find to be very helpful, as he is always willing to share. Whenever there is any sort of crisis, within or outside of The Hive, AmRealFae will bring anything that he thinks will be helpful. While Gypsum might not fully understand how three hundred tiny individual cotton scraps will help their battle plan, he appreciates the effort.
