Lavitz

Lavitz was bitter. He tried not to be. He knew in his head that Guardians should be with Guardians and Mirrors with Mirrors. But in his heart he felt betrayed. And he still felt love for her: after all of these years; after all she had done; and after all she had not done. His memory of their first meeting will forever be etched in his heart. That day held excitement, and a bit of sadness. The coliseum was filled with families watching the exalting ceremony. He was too young to understand that his brother would not around anymore to protect him from the bullying Wildclaw neighbors. He just felt the excitement of a ceremony, and knew that his brother got to wear a sash, he wanted a sash, and got to meet the Gladekeeper, he did not care if he met the Gladekeeper, but that sash! He could not understand why his mom cried and smiled at the same time. His dad stood proud. And his brother had an air of importance about him that he had not seen before. His mother gave up trying to keep him still and sent him to the garden behind the stadium. In the garden was a makeshift daycare with a number of young dragons playing happily, not realizing the importance of the ceremony that bored them so. Seraphina was dancing around a bed of light yellow flowers. They loved each other from that first meeting. And she loved him Forever, she professed. When her family insisted that she marry Malzahar a dragon of her own kind, Sera swore she would run away with Lavitz. Yet when that moment came, the night before her wedding ceremony, she was a coward. She cried and swore her eternal love for Lavitz. But she could not betray her family. Lavitz knew that she loved him. But, he also knew that if she ran away with him, she would never rise to matriarch of the lair. She chose power over him. He joined the lair to be near her. He knew it was not healthy, and he should have moved on. He lived for the occasionally nights they stole together. But she always returned to Malzahar. And he returned to the distraction of the training field. He became the strongest, fastest, most powerful hero of the clan. All of the women swooned over him. All of the men envied him. No one knew.
