Nova was born within the beauty and light of the Starwood Strand, and it is possible that therein lies the cause of the arrogance of her younger years which was, arguably, far greater than that of any Pearlcatcher before or since. She did not live in the forest for long, however. When she was only days old, her parents moved their clutch to the safer Crystalspine Reaches and- though she would never admit it- the dragoness was simply too lazy, and perhaps cowardly as well, to return to the beautiful lands that so affected her as a hatchling.

She left the nest to form a lair of her own when she was still quite young. She took up residence in the Crystalspine Reaches, far from her childhood home, in the area that would eventually become home to the Arcanist's Acolytes. She lived there for decades before Caza would bring the area's dragons together and establish the clan, in an elaborately designed and decorated lair. Within her lair she studied magic, alone, keenly aware that only she was capable of understanding the discoveries she made and the knowledge she gained.

In her younger years she was the paragon of Pearlcatcher stereotypes; disdainful and proud, she lived alone, honing her mind, polishing her pearl, and lording her superiority over other dragons being her only pastimes. No other dragon could deny that she was gifted, but her constant contempt for others ensured that no one tried to join her in her research. However, as the years passed and Nova's studies never ended, she began to realize just how much there was even she did not know, that that humbling lesson saw her begin to mellow and treat other dragons with greater respect. While she may still retain a bit of her old hauteur, it certainly served her well in her role as "omniscient" mentor of Caza and, later, all of the Arcanist's Acolytes.

Nova is the oldest and wisest of the clan's four elders, and she was the first to support Caza in her attempt to bring together the area's dragons and form a clan. Her decades of study and her seemingly endless knowledge make her the perfect dragon for her role as clan sage. She mentors any dragon that asks for it and gives advice to any dragon that doesn't. She is often nosy and her guidance sometimes unwarranted, but her heart is almost always in the right place.

When she isn't giving advice or being the great and mysterious sage of the clan, Nova can usually be found in one of two places: with her muzzle in a book or in another dragon's business. Like many Pearlcatchers she loves gossip and, though time has seen several of her species' traits fade from her personality, this one has remained. No matter how she indulges this love, however, she does not allow it to interfere with her role in the clan or with her overall trustworthiness. If anything, keeping a claw on all the goings-on of the clan and its members only strengthens her ability to give sound advice to other dragons.

Love of gossip aside, Nova remains most comfortable acting as a wise mentor as it is best suited to enlarging her already inflated ego. In what other pursuit can you continuously insult another dragon and have them come back for more- praising your knowledge and ability as they do, no less? Perhaps other dragons are always cursing her under their breath, but deep, deep down, they know they love her and her cantankerous ways. After all, when she's chatting with the other gossips of the clan, it's clear that her prickly mentor self is simply her way of having a bit of fun with her poor pupils.
