Peddler
Sarmer's not part of the clan, but an itinerant peddler who passes through from time to time, accompanied by a dog the clan agrees is adorable and a bear the clans feels is very distinctly not.
'Thank goodness we're not on the Wind's plateaus anymore,' Reina said to Cheimon as they watched the Wildclaw jog off with some of their money and less of his wares. 'Can you imagine what that thing would have done to the reeds?'
'Wildfires,' Cheimon said, shuddering delicately.
Hephaestus, looking over their heads, said, 'I wonder if he'll come by after we return home?'
The two skydancers glanced at one another. Reina scratched at her chest fluff. 'We'll just have to clear him a path.'
'Or pour water on the bear....' Cheimon offered.
'Will that work?' Reina asked.
'Since we don't know how the bear remains on fire without dying, it's hard to tell if dousing it will work,' the Imperial pointed out.
'This was not the sort of thing I anticipated dealing with when I founded a clan,' Reina muttered.
'But it's the sort of thing you've been saddled with,' Hephaestus observed, smiling. He nuzzled her, then headed back into the cave.
'We'll figure something out,' Cheimon said, spreading a wing over her friend's back. 'Maybe we'll find a Water bear and they'll just... cancel each other out.'
Reina covered her face with her hands.
