This dragon has been rescued from the Hallowed Hall!

______ Crystallus Oculi sat inside the main antechamber of the Hallowed Hall. Her ears twisted this way and that while her nostrils flared to determine who was in the chamber with her. There were many familiar scents however most of them were old: Noctis Timore, Purpura Squama, Crudelis Aegror. Other scents that were fresh were that of her brother Gerhardt, her sister Atasna, and the Angel of Slumber Mollis Somnus. She could hear the gentle whispers in the air caused by Mollis Somnus snoring.

Crystallus Oculi felt a gentle paw touch her shoulder. She blinked, unseeing, but knew the touch was her brother. She hoped that they were being quiet enough not to disturb Mollis Somnus. The thought of him awakening made her shudder. She remembered the last time, very painfully, of what happened when she and her brother had disturbed the sleeping Skydancer.

"You're so loud," groaned Mollis Somnus's drowsy voice.

Crystallus Oculi whispered, unable to bring herself to raise her voice any further, "We're sorry. We were on our way to examine the fracture in the wall of the southern tunnels."

"Be on your way then," grumbled Mollis Somnus.

Crystallus Oculi and her two siblings heaved a united and relieved sigh. They quickened their pace to get away from Mollis Somnus. Crystallus Oculi was grateful for Gerhardt's tail leading her along the tunnel. His tail tip draped over her shoulder was a comfort. Hopefully they were not too late for the rendezvous.

They were in the southern tunnels, Crystallus Oculi knew it because of how high the moisture was in the stagnant air. There was a strong smell of salt that made her snout crinkle.

"F-Father," she called out carefully, "Are you here?"

"I am," answered their father Niveus Crystallo, "I'm glad you were able to pull away. Everything is set."

Crystallus Oculi took a deep breath and felt the fresh air flowing around her. So her father was able to do it. He was able to carve out their escape route from the crystal. But her heart sank. Why couldn't they stay?

"Father," she whimpered.

Niveus Crystallo's voice held a note of worry. "Now, now, none of that. Time is of the essence. Noctis Timore will smell the scent of the fresh air soon enough. You must flee. Now."

A fell voice dripped from behind Crystallus Oculi. It froze her blood with the silky tones. "Of course, we wouldn't want that...So Niveus Crystallo...you still do not understand the great honor that your children were chosen for?"

Crystallus Oculi knew whose voice that was. The chill in her blood could only be caused by Noctis Timore, the horrible stench of death that clung to him made her snout crinkle. She smelled the presence of Mollis Somnus as well. She felt her heart plummet. Their escape had been so carefully planned out, only to fall short when they were this close? Her head unconsciously bowed.

Niveus Crystallo's voice pierced the tense silence. "Raise your head Crystallus Oculi. You and your siblings are getting out of here."

She never heard her father sound so serious. Her head lifted and she felt her heart flutter. What was this tension in the air? It wasn't fear, it was something new. Determination? Maybe, she couldn't recognize it. What was he going to do? None defied Noctis Timore, not down in the Hallowed Hall.

Noctis TImore's voice dripped with malice, "No, they are not. How dare you interrupt their preparations for their Ascension?"

"I will not let you sacrifice anymore of my children to the Arcanist," spat Niveus Crystallo.

Crystallus Oculi heard a strange sound, claws on crystal. A deep roar echoing all around her. There was a rush of air filled with her father's scent. Did he just run by?

"Flee my children," roared Niveus Crystallo.

Crystallus Oculi felt her brother's strong presence pushing her. Before she knew it she was falling. She could hear the roar of the ocean. Out of instinct, she opened her wings and felt the air catch her.

"Sleeeep," echoed the terrible voice of Mollis Somnus somewhere behind her.

"N-No," whimpered Crystallus Oculi, "So....close..."

She felt a rush of air and her wings lock, but then her mind slipped from her. She fell into the ocean to be swept away by the currents. Her fate was uncertain.
