Erzulie was picked up as a child and forced to work for the den growing up. When the Captain found out about her interest in medicine as a young teenager, she exploited that desire. Brought her books and supplies, lying that she'd spent money for her to educate herself properly and become the den's doctor. She had, of course, stolen these things, but Erzulie was tricked and Shark got what she wanted.
She doesn't speak very much, but does come out to socialize at dinner and gatherings. She has her own little room inside the ward where she keeps her books and precious possessions, and that seems to be enough for her. The way she sees it, she's doing something good by helping heal others, even if those dragons are mean old pirates. In her mind she's able to distance herself from them enough to feel okay about sleeping at night.

Erzulie’s themes are prosperity, abundance, and love. Her symbol is the color blue. This Haitian love Goddess extends Her beneficent spring like energy whenever we need it, especially when our pockets or hearts are empty. When life gets out of kilter, petitioning Erzulie sets everything back on track, slowly but surely. Blue is Erzulie’s sacred color, and She is sometimes called ‘the loving one’.
