Biche

Hatched from an elemental egg deep in the heart of the Shadow region, Biche knows what it's like to be truly alone in the world. With no family and very little support, Biche never felt at home or welcome in the society of modern dragons. As soon as he was old enough, he joined the order of Sentinels, hoping that in the Fortress of ends, he would find the sense of belonging he had never felt in the Shadowbinder's domain.

He did not.

However, by lucky chance, he did meet Belle. As a dragon who completely eschewed the traditions of gaoler society, despite the inevitable difficulties it caused her, she was like no other dragon he'd ever met. Inspired by her confidence and bravery, Biche sought her company again and again, not realising until too late how deeply in love he had fallen. Fortunately, although at first she found him annoying, Belle had in the meantime discovered the depth of his character, his quiet strength, and that he understood her life as few others ever had. It was not difficult to reciprocate, and very natural to settle down somewhere they could welcome other lost gaolers.

Biche takes care of Belle as if she were the Icewarden. Living as he does in the Fortress of Ends, he contributes his skills towards the protection of the Icewarden and the Pillar Fragment whenever he can, but he considers the safety of his family his highest loyalty and calling.

(Biche is a pet name given to him by his mate; even Biche himself does not remember the name given to him on reaching his majority.)
