______ Marianne spends most of her time in the library, curled up with a good book or furiously writing an essay. Her endless thirst of knowledge, particularly when dealing with magic, is what drives her, and being confronted with the unknown ignites a burning curiosity that she simply has to extinguish, even if the answer is something no one knows. She’s published numerous research papers and shed light on a fair amount of how magic works, becoming a well-respected scholar among her peers. Before coming to the village, she had a life any scholar would be jealous of: A high-end research lab with a huge collection of books all to herself in the part of the Sunbeam Ruins filled with unknowns to discover. One day, however, she overheard some dragons talking about eleven tomes filled with forbidden magic, and her curiosity was ignited. She left her old life behind with no regrets, travelling all over Sornieth in search of the tomes. One wasn’t enough, she had to find all eleven. However, most of her searches turned up nothing, until Marianne heard of the neverending blizzard in the Icefields, and she decided to explore it and uncover its secret as well. To her surprise, she found not only a hidden village, but all eleven of the tome holders as well! She was ecstatic over her lucky find, but to her frustration, none of the eleven holders were willing to let her study their tomes. She relentlessly hounded them, begging to read and uncover the magic hidden within. Her persistence caused the tome holders to dread her presence, becoming increasingly uncomfortable around her, with Glacier in particular even wanting to use their magic on her, regarding her as a threat. It took a thankfully failed attempt to kill her by Glacier for Marianne to realise how much trouble she had caused the tome holders, and she finally stopped, instead using her persistence to try and make amends with them. This coupled with no shortage of other powerful mages like Snowflake, a rare dual elementalist, is what caused Marianne to reside in the village permanently.

______ Marianne is a curious dragon down to her core, with even her charge being her knowledge itself. She views anything she doesn’t know as a challenge to overcome and add to her Snapper-like memory, something developed to help in the protection of her charge. Even though her relentlessness has helped her realise many rules of magic, it can also serve to drive away others, especially if Marianne pesters them insistently for information they don’t want to reveal. She’s finally realised the harms this can cause, and is slowly learning to take no for an answer as well as come to terms with the fact that some things might be unknown for a reason, and she shouldn’t try to forcefully gain that knowledge. If dragons do consent to being studied, however, she will gladly take them up on their offer. This is how Snowflake came to be Marianne’s good friend and research partner. She had originally allowed Marianne to study her abilities, and became friends over time. In Marianne’s efforts to make amends to the tome holders, she has had varying degrees of success. Glacier, for example, continues to view her as a threat and remains distrustful of her while Grimoire has not only long forgiven her, but has become another of her close friends due to their shared thirst for knowledge. Marianne has accepted that some of the holders may never forgive her, but remains hopeful that they might at least stop being wary of her, and continues to try and improve her relationship with them. Despite being born a Wind dragon, Marianne’s stay at the Sunbeam Ruins and her general want for knowledge has led her to align herself with the Lightweaver instead of the Windsinger.
