Usha

My name is Usha, founder and matriarch of the Filia Clan. It has always been my desire to see all dragons in my clan living in peace and harmony with a suitable mate. So I take it upon myself to find those suitable mates for them. I can't forget about the babies, of course! My co-founder Grim and I have made so many beautiful babies, as have the other pairs of the clan. I want to see more and more!

All of that was put on hold when I fell ill during a plague unleashed by the Plaguebringer herself. I wasn't aware of much that was going on while I lay there on the verge of death, other than about half of the clan died, and that Qubine was the only one unaffected and working to build a new clan to fight the plague. I was told it had been over a year, but I felt so much better after Orphne came up with the cure.

And now I'm back to my mission of finding mates and making my clan members beautiful. Although...I can't bring myself to find new mates for the dragons who had lost theirs to the plague. It would seem disrespectful.

So new dragons were my priority. I met a lovely Fae named Corela, who told me she was being ridiculed for her colors. I can't imagine why. She has such lovely colors. Plus I thought she would make a suitable mate for Donovan, so I took her in. I promised I would make her beautiful. Unfortunately it's taking quite a bit longer than expected, because a Nocturne dragon named Erebus is threatening to corrupt the world with darkness. Sorry, but I have to keep the clan safe before I can make my dragons beautiful. But I won't forget my promise.

Special Talents: Founder and leader of the Filia clan; Matchmaker

Usha is one of the two founders and the matriarch of the Filia Clan. Much like the Gladekeeper's own vision, Usha lives to cherish life and beauty. As such, she can see the beauty in almost anything and anyone. She will go to great lengths to see that the dragons in her clan are happy and beautiful. She loves to take on a matchmaker role, searching all over Sornieth and bringing back dragons whom she thinks would make suitable mates for the single dragons in her clan. She makes her matches with the dragons' breeds, colors, or genes in mind, but pays little attention to personalities. Regardless, she has made many successful matches during her reign so far. The only match that wasn't so successful was Pelindar and Rafadel, as Pelindar had firmly rejected Rafadel for her breed, element, and battle experience. However, since Qubine has shown Pelindar the error of his views, Usha still hopes that Pelindar and Rafadel will become a happy couple one day. Perhaps that is why Usha rarely considers personalities when she makes her matches, for they are often subject to change.

The one thing that Usha enjoys most about matchmaking is all the hatchlings that her clan breeds. She loves to see the babies that hatch, even if they choose to leave the clan when they reach maturity. She realizes that it's unrealistic to expect all the hatchlings to stay, as their lair isn't big enough for all of them.

On the subject of beauty, Usha likes to collect apparel for the clan. Magical gene scrolls are harder to obtain, so she's a little more careful about using them, but she's good at using the right ones to bring out the most beauty in her dragons, regardless of their color scheme. She even sees beauty in Corela's color scheme, which most other dragons outside the clan have found hideous. Usha believed that Corela's color scheme gives her a "tropical" look and thus has given her some red rosy apparel to fit the theme. She has an idea which genes would look lovely for Corela, but her mission is put on hold while she deals with the problem of Erebus trying to destroy the world.

Usha is also aware of the darker side of Sornieth, and realizes that protecting the clan is also essential to ensuring their peace and happiness. So she, her mate Grim, and the warrior Qubine had taken the Passage to strengthen themselves and become the guardians of the clan. At first the three of them were content with tearing their way through the beasts that threatened them, they eventually realized that a healer was needed. Since Grim had chosen to learn physical combat, Usha chose to learn magic, as she felt that it better suited her nurturing personality. Even now, she's still the most powerful caster in the clan, her power matched only by the Fae dragon Kincaid.

Usha was inactive throughout the Plague Arc due to her illness. She only emerged at the very end, after Orphne developed the permanent cure. When Qubine tried to step down from his leadership, Usha decreed that Qubine would remain the leader of the clan he had raised on his own. It was her idea to branch the clans together, naming her clan Filia, while Qubine's clan was named Kalma.


Fae of Light Arc

Although Usha resumed her matchmaking role after the plague, she remained respectful to those who lost their mates. She would not rush to find new partners for them; rather she would let them choose whether they wanted a new mate. The first dragon she came across was Corela, a Fae born with an unfortunate color combo, rejected by dragons everywhere. Not only did Usha find beauty in her colors, but she thought of a potential mate at home, who was also born with unfortunate colors - Donovan. Usha healed Corela's wounds and brought her into the clan. She watched happily as the two Faes had three healthy babies.

Later, Usha brought home two more dragons to match with current members. Dudley, as a mate for Xylina; and Pelindar, as a mate for Rafadel. Unfortunately, Pelindar greatly disapproved of this match, rejecting Rafadel because of her common breed, Plague element, and battle experience. It was the first ever disappointment for Usha. However, since Qubine was able to get through to Pelindar, Usha still has hopes.
