 Falling for Somnus "How can a dragon ever be this ridiculous?" Ablaze asked herself. She watched a colorful skydancer parade around the clan, leading a small army of hatchlings around as they sang songs about fighting beastclan enemies. Every day, she'd watch Somnus play with the hatchlings and wondered if any were his own. This tempted her to approach him herself to ask. On a day where she wasn't busy, Ablaze approached Somnus and asked why he's always with the kids. "Is it your job?" "No, a 'job' makes it sound like I'm forced to do it. I choose to. I love what the hatchlings have to say. I enjoy hearing their thoughts and opinions on matters they deal with. Sometimes we go to the training fields to play, and I'll scare off any beastclans in the area." Ablaze frowned. "But what if they're attacked?" "I'll die before I let anything hurt them." He said with a hint of sadness in his tone. Ablaze picked up on this. "Did something happen before?" He looked off at the hatchlings sadly, then turned back to the healer. "I had a friend. She had trouble having babies, and it took everything in her to be able to lay a nest of two. She devoted everything to her babies, but they were born sick. Their mother lost friendships, clan jobs and just focused everything on her children. But the children weren't destined for long lives, and died before they reached adulthood. Their mother, my friend, was left without relationships. Without any clan jobs. She left the lands to serve Flamecaller, as there was nothing left for her here. She's exalted now, serving our goddess. I miss her, but I love knowing that despite what happened to her children, they lived happy lives. Each day was a gift and each day was spent with stories and playing. I want to make sure every child isn't trapped by their destiny, whether as a fighter, a healer, or as a leader. Their childhoods should be full of fun." Ablaze smiled sadly, mourning the death of the hatchlings. "A noble cause" After this, Ablaze and Somnus talked more. Then they fell in love. Then, they had hatchlings of their own to adore, to play with, and to love. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
