______ The pursuit of knowledge had always been of the utmost importance to Eros. It was almost as if it was his sole reason for living. Ever since he was a hatchling he dedicated any free time he had to books. He would tear through them much quicker than others his age, his unnaturally bright eyes hungrily devouring each word like it was life-giving water. Though not an uncommon hobby for Light dragons, his obsession with learning and nothing more concerned the elders of his birthclan. It came to their attention that Eros has started taking a keen interest in the folktales, legends, and stories of some of the more eclectic members of the clan, and that those stories were fueling a new research topic for him...magic.

______ Magic was by no means a forbidden subject. In fact, most Light dragons were encouraged to learn it, as well as many other magical things. However, there were certain magics that were dangerous. Magics that were not to be trifled with by any sane dragon. The story that Eros had become obsessed with was one concerning such magics. It told of an ancient and lost temple deep within a forest on the border of the Sunbeam ruins and the Tangled Wood. Within this fabled temple was a source of magic so dark and powerful that it was said to be able to black out the sun itself. Such magic was inconceivable and disgusting to most of Light's denizens, but to Eros, it was fascinating. "Magic that could black out the sun? Imagine what other power such magic could give you. Imagine the possibilities."

______ As he grew, Eros delved deeper into researching the legend and the magic it told of. There was precious little material concerning it, but he hunted down every scrap he could find, whether written or oral. He needed to find this temple, and the source....he needed to study the magic, learn the cause of its source, how it worked, what more it was capable of. He began an apprenticeship with a skilled archaeologist in his clan, as well as learning how to navigate and survive in the wilds. On the morning of his first day as a fully adult dragon, Eros gathered his few sentimental belongings, his tent, field tools, and food, and set off to search for the temple.

______ It had been weeks since he'd set out to find the temple, and yet he'd found nothing. There was no trace of it. No ruins, no ancient trails, nothing. Eros looked to the dwindling light of his lantern, surrounded by notes he'd taken so far on his journey. The flickering flame within lit up his tent just barely, and he sighed. He had no more oil to put in it, and no more food after tonight's rations were gone. What had gone wrong? He had plotted his course so carefully. Years of diligent research, and for what? To end up lost among the towering redwoods and the invading thorns of the Tangled Wood? He couldn't just give up and turn back. He needed to know what was within the temple. He needed that magic. He huffed another sigh as he laid down, wrapping his tail around his folded wings and face. He would continue his search tomorrow and work only by daylight. He would have to hunt to sustain himself from here on out. What an inconvenience...
