“Alecris! Get out of my den!” A dragon yelled. Smiling, I backed up.

“Okay, okay!” ‘That’s five more gems for my hoard!’ Slipping the jewels into my bag, I stepped out of the den and nearly ran into WindChaser.

“Greetings little one.” The ancient Skydancer nodded.

“What do you want?” I scowled. WindChaser was temporarily staying with us to heal. Apparently, that’s what healers do nowadays.

“I am going to heal a dragon. Anxiety from missing treasure has taken its toll.” She
looked down on me.

“What does that have to do with me?” I rolled my eyes. “Missing things don’t make you sick!”

“So you say. Now I really must be going. Why don’t you meet me at sunset?” And she left.
I stared after the Skydancer for a minute and then sneaked into my lair. The cool air, smelling damp and musty, greeted me. I sat down and pulled out a lump of raw gold. Taking out my tools I molded the soft metal into a dragon figurine. After several hours of patient work, the statue was completed. I proudly set it on a shelf and realized my hunger. I hadn’t eaten all day!

As I stepped out into the cool evening air, I smelled something warm and delicious drifting out of WindChaser’s temporary lair.
I wandered over, the healer smiled and beckoned me in. We sat, drank tea and slowly became friends! That was the begging of our many meetings.

Over the course of two months, she changed me from a bullying thief to a friendly jeweler. I joined the small but happy clan of KiteSong. Every other month I fly to a new region to sell my jewelry. Sometimes I sit with WindChaser, drink tea and talk. A spinel vulstal named Agate has completed my life, we love to play.
