Lore: Vail was born into the order of the Sentries in the Icewarden's ancient gaols. His first assignment was a beginner post on the gates of the Gaols. Most nights were windy and snowy. Perfect for toughing up young gaolers for their later posts deep in the frigid caverns. But one night the blizzard passed and Vail saw Sorneith's moons and stars for the first time. They were the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. He saw them several more times over the next few months at his post and quickly developed a game of memorizing where certain stars were and what phase the moons might be in next. But soon his post changed so a new sentry in training could take the post. He was assigned to one of the entry halls of the Gaol. He begged to have another outdoor post but was denied and reprimanded. His post was moved in further, to empty cells. He spent most of his carving stars and moons into the icy walls. Hoping, wishing, praying he could see the night sky again. There was a commotion among the gaol and all sentries were paired with a Seeker to investigate the source somewhere above the Gaol in the Cloudscrapes. He and his keeper didn't find much and after a night's conversation over a campfire, the pair decided to just continue over the Cloudscrapes and start a new life far away from their miserable jobs in the Gaol. Now the pair lives in Mephisto running a tavern for sailors with Vail making star charts on the side with his telescope on the roof of their new home. Where he can look at the stars any night it's clear, and now one can stop him.
