• Due to Desdemona's parents also being pale colored coatls, she wasn't exactly given a reason to buy into standard coatl superstition. Before sending her off, however, they did warn her of said superstition and she only believed that it wasn't just a tall tale once she'd experienced it firsthand. She watched the other coatls in her new clan shy away from her and she was incredibly disheartened.

• When she first found the clan, she didn't understand a word anyone said to her and it wasn't until Azalea, and later Skullduggery, approached her and made attempts to communicate. Over time, between socializing with her and then Yarrow and Berry, the two non-coatls became relatively fluent in their language.

• Once Skull was able to communicate with her properly, he encouraged her to embrace the notion that she was supposed to be terrifying. The more he reasoned with her, the more she liked the idea, though she still sometimes has her doubts. It's only a ruse that she keeps up in the presence of the other coatls in the clan. She's as sweet as can be with anyone and everyone else that she can communicate with in one way or another. Sometimes she'll resort to pictograms to get her point across. Skull is incredibly bad at deciphering them.

• When Skull isn't off doing his appointed job, the two are almost inseparable. The two share a mostly platonic relationship, but that doesn't stop them from snuggling up together in their downtime. Skull, during one of his recent scavenging runs, came across an obsidian coatl hatchling. After knowing of Des' past struggles, he brought the child back with him and set her at Des' feet. At first, she was unsure, but after just a few days with the hatchling, she has absolutely accepted Maur as her own and is determined to keep her from having the same experiences she did years ago.
