Cheri Taking a slight detour from your usual route, you discover a magnificent valley of lush emerald grass and bouquets of scented wildflowers. Their sweet perfume entices you to stop and appreciate their beauty. As you move forward, a soft but sudden noise from below catches your attention. "What the ... this isn't grass!" Something stirs just inches beside your foot. To your horror, you realize that you almost stepped on a baby dragon! "Mama?" the young dragon yawns, rubbing the sleep out of two heavily hooded eyes. "Oh, I'm not your mother!" She seems unaffected by these words however and begins to nuzzle your foot with her tiny, soft cheek. "Mama." You resolve to stay in the area, praying that someone will come to claim her. But as night draws near and stars begin to freckle the indigo sky, foreboding thoughts creep in and invade your mind. "This child is too young to be left alone this long. What if something awful has happened to her parents?" "What if she wandered too far from the nest and got lost?" "Or worse, what if she's been abandoned!?" Morning dawns on the horizon. The hatchling wakes from her night's slumber, unaware and unaffected by your long and restless vigil. She looks up at you and you can hear a muffled, yet persistent grumble bellow from her belly. "Well, I can't just leave you here" you sigh. "I'll take you back to my clan where you'll be safe. But first, let's see about getting you some breakfast, okay?" |
