The Lion of the Ice

Bio: A young Gaoler, Muse quickly got herself a reputation for being fierce and unforgiving; she took her role as a prison guard very seriously. Though she was open to the idea of other dragons and the wider world, she saw no reason to go out of her way to bother with any of it. After all, she had a duty, and she wasn't about to go chasing off after some silly dream when the balance of Sornieth was dependent in part on her ability to perform it. She was one of those who would help contain any of her fellow guards that were considered no longer fit for their duty (turns out watching over frozen horror-terrors for eternity did stuff to a dragon sometimes) and garnered a lot of respect from Gaolers even twice her age. She never got too close to anyone, not seeing the need for friends or mates.

And then...a new threat emerged in the form of eggs from their long-forgotten ancestral enemy hatching, all at once, and swarming all over Sornieth like wasps. Any Banescale that found themselves in the Southern Icefield, the Gaolers would capture, subdue, and lock up. Even those who were young. (They were all so young). Even those who bore the same white eyes as the Icewarden's children.

Muse started to doubt. One particularly mouthy prisoner, with blue fire on her wings and frost on her breath, made Muse question absolutely everything she'd held so near and dear before. Was it right to lock up these new dragons because of a war between their grandparents' grandparents? Something no living dragon today even remembered? Did they really want to continue and revive that ancient conflict? Muse had never been great at articulating her thoughts, so she kept quiet. Until Octane tried to escape and was sentenced to be executed, just for wanting her freedom back. Then, Muse tried to protest, tried to use her clout to get them to let all the Banescales go, but the others didn't go for it. They refused to give up their own biases.

So Muse just used the tool more familiar to her: brute force. She busted Octane out of prison and they went on the run together, leaving the Fortress of Ends far behind. Muse never looked back.
