Desdemona

An unfortunate child, born to a bloodline plagued by misery.
A shameful child, born to a jealous daughter and a stolen lover.
A sorrowful child, bearing the sins of her forebears.

She tried to leave it all behind, but the blood in her veins could not be changed out like an outfit. Desdemona was a child of a cursed bloodline, bearer of a darkness few could understand. Darker still was the pall that tainted the relationship she had with her family. To her mother she was a trophy of victory, to her father a proof of indiscretion, and all in all she felt a bit of a nuisance at home. Tired of being a wallflower, she took her fate into her own hands and set off alone to find her place in the world. There are some fates, however, that cannot be escaped so easily...

"Lonely? No, I'm not lonely. I tried to be lonely once, but it seems those of us with darkness in our hearts pull each other in, like gravity..."

Desdemona wasn't on her own for very long before another relative, a distant one, found her. She was Shadow to Desdemona's Light, but in their family elemental alignment meant very little. Larua was very different, however. She possessed a stranger darkness, a dark that was full of fire instead of emptiness. As fate would have it, this Fae was her Charge. Desdemona despaired at not being able to escape her cursed bloodline even when she tried, but Larua insisted it was a good thing. Desdemona resigned herself to her fate and followed the strange Fae.

As time passed the two became used to one another. Though Larua was of a more sinister bend than Desdemona she didn't dislike her, even finding her to be an entertaining companion provided nothing set off one of the Fae's wicked tantrums. Larua had a different perspective on their blood curse, claiming that it was only a curse if you viewed it as one. She had embraced the dark within and no longer suffered, so she claimed. Desdemona wasn't so sure, but she politely entertained her Charge's opinion. She did seem fairly happy, after all...

"Is this really love? I'm just not sure..."

On a moonlit night he came, drifting in on a breeze as silent as a shadow. They didn't even know he was there for a while, until he floated soundlessly into sight. Samael made very little noise and spoke even less. Larua was instantly infatuated while Desdemona was suspicious. His curse was extremely strong though he was more removed from their blighted matriarch than she was. She couldn't drive him off for long as he kept coming back, orbiting her like a tiny moon. Around the same time anyone who gave them trouble seemed to have trouble find them in very brutal ways.They both knew it was Samael, but his reasons were harder to get out of him than his name.

He finally broke his silence, muttering his disdain of one who had insulted the one he wished to make his chosen mate...not Larua, as the two had thought, but Desdemona. She didn't know what to make of it, but has grown tolerant of his presence even if her own feelings are a mystery even to her. Samael completed the little family Desdemona had unknowingly built around herself, and as they began to add to it she found a sort of peace in this company that she had never known at home. Happy? No. Happiness was flimsy and too easily stolen. Desdemona found contentment, and would fight to defend it at all costs.
