Biography
Cernunnos, the Wild Hunt
Mutations: None. Does not hail from Sornieth.
-there is something in the woods
-the entire forest is devoid of animal life, save for cernunnos
-his appearance is unclear most of the time: he takes the shape of a massive gaoler, but moreso centauresque with an additional "torso" where the neck usually is (to give the shape of a rider) and the massive gnarlhorn mimicking a stag's antlers
-unless one is very close (unlikely), markings and colours are indiscernible
-he enjoys the thrill of the chase, and treats trespassers as game to be tracked and hunted down
-no one is sure what he does once he catches his prey; does he kill them? does he eat them? does he transfigure his victims?
-however, scattered bones, from beasts and dragons alike, can be sometimes found in the woods
Cernnunos entire hide ripples with movement, which, when angered or provoked, are revealed to be a swarm of Veilspun. Legends say that any creature, dragon or otherwise, that perishes within the woods are reborn as another Veilspun that accompanies him.
-the forest itself appears cloaked in perpetual nighttime, the canopy too thick to let even a speck of light through
-strong smell of floral decay
-tight clusters of plants and trees are characterized by a thick, tar-like substance at their base, most likely decomposing organic matter
-the forest cannot be traversed from above: it saps the strength of dragons and forces them to land within
-it cannot be traversed from around, as it appears to be an infinite length (though, through strange magics, it actually forces the dragon to loop back)
-the only way is through. good luck.
-the forest is hostile, but not in a violent way:
-the water is tainted with decay, but any who attempts to drink will find themselves with a mouthful of silt as the water retreats
-the fruit are rotten, but will completely shrivel and decompose before making it into someone's mouth
-no fire will take, for the wood and plants are too humid, waterlogged like corpses left in a lake
-no disease will overtake the trees, for dead (?) plants care not for illnesses
-no gale or squall can bend their trunks or uproot them, for they are as much part of the earth as the stones and soil
-no ice can hope to kill the flora, for the air is too warm to allow even a shred of ice to overtake it
-no light can illuminate the path, for the darkness is one with the air
