In the beginning, she made her home in a series of watery caverns. Her brown, teal, and mossy green scales help her camouflage against algae-ridden cave walls with water trickling and pooling on the rocky cave floor. Her familiar is much more comfortable with the water than she is, doing most of the fishing while she explores the deeper tunnels. She's always been rather isolated, but she liked it that way. It was quieter alone, quiet enough to hear the echoes of water drops falling from the stalactites into the pools of water and making a kind of natural music.

Tamat doesn't really remember a time before those caverns. They were her cradle and those echoes her lullaby.

One day, during yet another venture for fish and supplies, she runs into another dragon. Tamat hasn't had a lot of experience interacting with other dragons, but she's quite certain that tiny creature is a baby fae. Her eyes are.... older than they should be. But then, a tiny creature like that, all alone in the big big world? Of course she had old eyes. Ichor doesn't ask for much, some food, some warmth, some stories. But Tamat doesn't have many stories. Eventually, having had her fill of mistimed silence, Petrichor takes pity on Tamat and starts to tell some stories of her own. Many of them come back to this little piece of the world, a forest at the corner of light and shadow, and the cruel and twisted and kind and magnificent beings that live within.

____Eventually Ichor leaves, but the memories linger. Tamat keeps getting drawn back into thinking of those woods, is struck at random moments with the desire to meet these characters. More than that, she misses the stories. So she starts to venture out into the nearby settlements. She finds that here, being able to survive off the land isn't quite enough, people exchange goods and expect you to contribute if you spend too long in one area. So she listens, she observes, she takes in everything these dragons are willing to tell her for free and that's when she strikes gold. Or, rather, gems.

____See Tamat has one skill that she's always found rather worthless. For all that survival can be a struggle, that fishing is a challenge and crafting protective gear from hide and bone is near impossible, gemstones have always called to her. She can find two good sized rubies in the time it takes her to catch a single fish and out here, finally, that's useful.

____She splits her time three ways, between scavenging gems, exchanging them with the craftsdragons who value them best, and exchanging that yield with the bards and elders for the stories she craved. Usually she keeps enough leftover to trade for basic necessities but when she doesn't she has her old surival skills to fall back on. As she finds her way in this system she needs those skills less and less and she finds herself wanting to learn more and more.

____When she's nearly wrung these settlements dry of good stories, old stories, she moves on to the craftsdragons. The smiths she's been trading with are particularly thrilled to tell her of their craft and she is eager to learn.

With that, she learns two lessons that will once again change her life forever. Tamat learns how to craft her gems herself, and she learns that it's time to move on. She wants to shape her own art and to find her own stories and she can't do that here, in these tiny little settlements so close to her caves. Not in the way she wants to. But she remembers the tiny little fae with old eyes and older stories and she remembers the desire to jump up and find these awesome woods and its magnificent inhabitants and now she has a destination.

Petrichor's investment is paying off, Tamat is coming home.

And then she meets her wife and they live happily ever after the end :)
