The last few days with you has been heaven, but we only met because I was on a journey - a journey that I must complete to ever be at peace. I should have left days ago, but you are so wonderful, that I couldn't help but stay. But we can't live in that cave forever. We can't hide from our lives forever. But if I had told you all this before I left, you would have compelled me to stay. And if I stayed long enough to see our innocent little children's faces, I never would have been able to leave.
I am so sorry, my love. I hope that after I find my father, I can come back to you, and you would forgive me.

I threw the letter at the wall and screamed. How could he leave. I looked over at my eggs, and watched as they vibrated, and I started to sob. I had only known Rin for a few days, but I fell in love with him so quickly and so intensely. I sat in the cave staring at the wall for hours, before I heard a soft "crack." I looked over at the eggs, and the first little skydancer started to emerge. In the next hour, two more followed. I gathered them up and hugged them, and in that moment I realized that there was nothing I could do about Rin - at least, not yet.

The next morning, I walked back to the camp I had left, and my brother, Spruce came running to me.

"Where have you been? You were supposed to be here forever ago. I thought you were dead." He ran and hugged her.

"I was only a couple days late. Besides, you guys are late all the time after a job. You get any good loot?" He nodded at Jade, his mate, who showed me their full bag of jewels and materials.

"Nice." I replied. I sighed and sat for a moment. I had to tell him, but I didn't know how.

He seemed to notice my heavy expression, because he furrowed his brow and said, "Is something wrong, sis?"

I couldn't help but start sobbing. Without a word, I led him back into the trees, where I had set my beautiful hatchlings, then I proceeded to tell him everything. I told him all about the few days I had spent with Rin and the deep pain I felt after he left.

After a few minutes of silence, I blurted out, "I think I have to go find him."

"You can't do that," Spruce said, gesturing to the hatchlings. "They need you, and he doesn't sound worth it."

"But you don't understand," I objected. "He is worth it. At least, I think he is. And if he's not, I can't be at peace until I know that for sure."

My brother sighed. "At least sleep on it. Maybe put a few sleeps on it. You are upset right now."

I agreed to try that, but I didn't know how to sleep on it when that night, I couldn't fall asleep at all. All night, I was tossing and turning and only thinking about Rin. I pulled the same vial that I had shared with Rin out of my bag, but it was empty. I knew I was being irrational, but it was also so clear to me what I needed to do.

I got up, scribbled "I'm sorry," on a piece of parchment, and flew away, looking back every few moments, but still with no doubt about my decision.
