B I O G R A P H Y
____Shade-touched. The whispers followed after Bolero all through his childhood, both real and imagined. It was not until he was much older that he ever thought to question which whispers were actually imagined. The chants on the winds and the shadowy figures playing in the brambles were as real as his clanmates insisting he stop letting his imagination get away from him. There was no one singing, they always said. There was no one playing in the brambles, they always said. It wasn't until nearly all of his friends abandoned him that Bolero realized the world he lived in was very different from his clan mates.
____Shade-touched, they sneered when he was old enough that they no longer felt guilty saying it to his face. Some of the kinder members of his clans blamed his eyes. Said it wasn't his fault he was cursed with forbidden sight. They were trying to be sympathetic, perhaps even protective in their own way. It only perpetuated the fact that he was different. How he longed for them to simply treat him as they did any other dragon in the clan. That would have been true kindness: giving him normalcy.
____Normalcy was the few times he and Erelis - his only real friend left - were left to their own devices. She had treated his world as a curiosity like most of the other hatchlings he'd grown up with but where they had faltered and let fear and peer pressure dictate their life, she had simply accepted that his world was as real as hers.
____Normalcy was listening to old Penn's stories about traveling the world. The ancient dragon had lost his sight long ago and he too lived in a world different from everyone else. He too could hear and sense things others couldn't and while he could never hear the songs and words drifting on the winds, his stories were always filled with things just as strange and impossible. Surely if such phantastical tales were real, then surely his world was just as real.
____It wasn't until they were both gone that Bolero realized just how much he'd grown to rely on their support. Erelis was the first to leave. Her family was moving North, crossing over the flight border in the Viridian Labyrinth. She was too young to stay on her own and her association with him would almost guarantee she was shunned within the clan that would have supported her otherwise. Bolero had been adamant she go with her family. He knew what it was like to be shunned. He would not wish that on her for his sake alone.
____Penn's passing was the beginning of the end. Whoever his parents had been, they had never come forth to claim him from the nests. Penn had been the closest thing to a father Bolero had ever had. He'd given him his name, honoring his strange senses instead of forsaking them. His death destroyed the young Fae. Despite his clear grief over his passing, his so called clan accused him of killiing Penn. They claimed he'd given the ancient dragon to the Shade. It was the final nail in the coffin.
____Bolero fled his accusers and winged into the night. Barely old enough to qualify as an adult, he fled into the heart of the Tangled Wood and never looked back.

_ERELIS_
____Bolero could scarcely believe his eyes. Erelis. Standing before him as if she'd materialized out of a dream. It had been years since he'd last seen her. What they had both thought would be their final, tearful goodbye. And yet there she stood, staring at him with as much shock as he felt.
____She was as painfully familiar as she was different. Decked out in the garb of a hunter, she was bigger, stronger looking. And shrouded in a fine web that clung to her wings like a disease. Erelis hated spiders, so why...?
____"Spider," he murmured, eyes locked onto it as it hung in wait of a meal.
____Erelis nearly jumped out of her skin. "WHAT!?" she yelped, snapping her eyes toward her wings where he was staring and beating her wings with all the force of a small hurricane. The web and the spider remained undisturbed even as she calmed and turned back to him. "I didn't..." she trailed off, and her voice grew heavy with unease. "Is it one of those...?"
____They way she'd turned back to him, the way her gaze and posture had filled with unease... She had taken a step backwards from him, as if she was scared... of him. It cut into his heart as effortlessly as a knife. "No, it's gone," he lied. "Probably picked it up in the brambles."
____She relaxed after a moment and offered him a tentative smile. He could barely force his head fins to lift to return the gesture.
____Erelis had changed.
_COVELL_
____Covell was in a word, odd. This, surprisingly enough, had nothing to do with the ghostly claws that sprouted around his wings and reached menacingly toward anything that captured his attention. He was far more emotive than any other Fae Bolero had ever met. Far more emotive than even himself and he considered himself already on the far spectrum of normal for his species. But where Bolero had latched onto smiles and laughter and vocal tone in a desperate attempt to be more approachable, the other Fae simply seemed to have been hatched that way.
____Covell winged closer, eyes lit up in excitement as he tried to convince him the delicate cloak in his claws could turn him invisible. Bolero drifted backwards with a single flap of his wings, not wanting those ghostly apparitions anywhere near him as they reached and strained to touch him.
____Undetered, the silver Fae simply threw the cloak over himself in a flash of shimmering cloth. The dragon did not disappear. Instead, his body lit up with a blazing glow to rival even the most blinding of glowshrooms.
____Bolero bit back a cry and hastily shielded his now watering eyes. "Take it off!" he hissed. "I don't know what that is, but it's not an invisibility cloak!"
____Covell gave him a bewildered look, but did as asked. "But... it is an invisibility cloak! What did you see to react like that?"
____Bolero dropped his claws from his eyes and looked away from the curious gaze. "Nothing. I saw nothing. Go away, already. I don't want anything you're selling."
