After wandering through the tangled wood for weeks, Nemesis was found by a hunting party. Lost and alone, a young adult gaurdian in the woods. Nemesis was taken into the lair by a forest green male gaurdian.
"Hello, young one. What's your name?"
"I'm Nemesis!" She declared, confidently.
The old gaurdian chuckled as she strolled next to him.
"Wonderful. My name is Yvanni. I'm the defender of the matriarch of my lair. Who is your charge?"
"My what?"
"... Your charge?" He halted, his tail flicking irritably. "Oh, don't tell me you're chargeless." He groaned.
"Uh- n-no! I have a charge! I'm... I-" Nemesis fumbled through her words, her swagger already gone. Yvanni leaned down and said
"Don't worry! I'll put you on the Auction House. I'll make some money, you'll find a new
lair to find a charge. It's a win-win."
"I- okay. But, what is a charge?"
"Every guardian finds one when they become an adult. Or, most do. Those who don't are essentially failures. Dissapointment to our entire species."
Nemesis was startled. This was such a huge part of her culture, how could she have not know about it?
"Wow. One last thing... How will I know when I find my charge?"
"It'll just... Hit you. Right here," Yvanni reached out and placed his claws over Nemesis' heart.


"Hello, my name's Imamu." Whispered the handsome Skydancer. Nemesis smiled at him in the cold moonlight. "My name's Nemesis," she echoed.

Oh boy, did that relationship last long. And yet three eggs were on their way. And Nemesis felt no emotion, no joy, no pride when they hatched, except for panic. She was horrified by these... Burdens. These dragonets that she had never loved or wanted. She sold them as fast as possible, the Skydancer hatchlings dissapearing faster than memory could record.

Months later....

Nemesis flicked her tail, surveying the crowd below her. The leader of the Lair of Whispering Willows. she'd finally made it to the top, after months of clawing her way to the top of the ranks, she'd finally made it. She glanced down and saw Verdigris looking up at her encouragingly. Nemesis' heart jumped happily. what as that? she wondered with a curious smile.And suddenly a whirlwind of memories hit her.


Verdigris shoved her shoulder gently as they sat together, in a soft, sunlit field.

Nemesis' face flushing as Verdigris festered her head on Nemesis' shoulder.

Verdigris' claws enfolded around Nemesis' as she attempted to reach her how to garden.

And back to her, watching Verdigris from above. Was that what it should feel like? Is that... What she is? My charge? Nemesis looked down at the sweet green spiral she'd known for half her life. Verdigris smiled up at her, and as the world melted away, Nemesis knew.

She had found it. She had found her charge.
