Volcanic Behemoths
Lore
These gargantuan creatures are original of the Ashfall Waste and are oddly rare to spot given their big size. The main reason is that they hardly move or leave their nests, and thanks to their cunningly resemblance to the scenery they appear like walking volcanoes.
The truth behind their shyness is still a mystery but very welcome as they have quite the destructive power. Their movements are usually slow and clumsy while calm but they are quite fast if angered. That might be because while in a calm state their temperature is lower and the lava slowly dripping down their manes solidifies rather quickly and impedes their movements, as opposed to when angry the lava sprouts are much more copious as their temperature rises.
One angry V. Behemoth is said to be able to make volcanoes erupt and cause quite the damage in the area around himself, but, while in the Ashfall Waste is hardly noticeable anywhere else would be seen as a disaster.

This subspecie nests in volcanoes, may them be active, inactive, dead or underwater. The reason is that they feed off of Magma, rocks and ground around it. Sometimes they can be seen snacking over trees, but that is quite rare.

Other than the classic orange-red Magma-maned V. Behemoths it’s said to exist a blue variant. It’s qui rare but they do exist and are quite the sight.
There are many reasons for one V. Behemoths terts color and pattern, here are some:

-White terts are usually a way to mimic the Ice and snow that can be found on some high and either dead or inactive volcanoes, especially in more icy regions.
-Black and browns are native of the Ashfall Waste or the Dragonhome and mimic the obsidian, coal and usually burned grounds.
-Reds and Oranges are a sign of active volcanoes, these are some of the most aggressive ones. These too are mostly seen in the Ashfall Waste.
-Yellows are common but usually seen on individuals that live near hot springs, gaisers and underwater and inactive volcanoes that have an high concentration of sulfur.
-Blues are only seen on blue magma-maned individuals.*

This wicked insect is immune to fire, so it often lures predators to their doom by flying through bursts of lava.
