||The Inscribed One||



Where his natural marks end and his unnatural ones begin is a mystery even unknown to the dragon who’s skin bares the symbols. Didier came from a friendly clan seeking shelter for their young, perhaps it was fate or pure chance that led the young dragon here but it seemed as he grew symbols slowly spread across his body. Being so young he didn’t notice at first, his ringlet pattern changed as he grew so he simply thought it was part of it. Only when he met others with the same gene did he start to realise that perhaps it wasn’t normal. Some panic, several trips to multiple doctors and healers later there was no real change in his health even as the marks grew larger and more intricate. It turned out that the answer to his questions did not lie with a healer but with a scholar. Thankfully moving to the arcane land was useful in that field as there are no shortage of scholars in the area.

It turned out that the various symbols along his body are different words from the same seemingly lost language of ancient ones, some words have been deciphered to mean such things as “grace”, “barrier” and most oddly a slag term meaning “attractive”. With each word it seemed to mean Didier had been blessed with an ability tied to each word, he has a strong ability for creating impenetrable ice walls which act as barriers, he is very light on his feet and flies gracefully and obviously he is rather handsome wouldn’t you say? Some words have yet to be identified but others still need to be translated, he travels regularly to try and find their meaning. In the case of some symbols they seem to name attributes he doesn’t have but the answer he gives for this is that he has yet to harness the words power as unlike some things he has to work at them instead of them coming naturally. Words that appeared on his body first are on his upper head and torso while ones that appeared later are much lower and often the unknown ones.

Even with his frequent travels Didier would find himself growing agitated at the lack of answers sometimes and his reliance on stuffy old dragons hauled up in dusty library's. Due to being a Nocturne learning new languages proved to be relatively easy due to his uncanny copying abilities and while he is better at parroting phrases than coming up with unique ones he knows enough to get by. This made him more able to study things on his own time and become what of an amateur philosopher. This also meant he has to travel less and could spend more time figuring out symbols tied into him that he hasn’t figured out yet. His newfound knowledge of other languages also enabled him to figure out that some words he had previously been given weren’t even correct! Which explains a lot as to why he would have so much trouble relating to certain symbols.

Didier likes to flex his knowledge from time to time and enjoys an excuse to learn new things revolving around symbols and language as they are his main interest. He sometimes is able to help other members of the clan in translating old books or beastclan scraps. He has a soft spot for Snapper dragons as they are no shortage of knowledge and often finds roaming Snapper clans to tag along with for a few days to see if they have any knowledge that can help him while being infinitely less grumpy than a typical scholar. He’s taken a real shine to Worble, who he has been more or less studying for the better part of a year. While it took Worble some time to warm up to the ever jabbering presence the two now have long conversations together.
