Biography

CLAN RULER
they/them
Blessing had been the clan's judge since they could remember. Rune would always praise their ability to see good and evil as equal, and equally unimportant: what seemed to matter to Blessing was truth, more than anything. Ever since they were a hatchling, their curiosity had led them towards magic; their rationality, however, had led them to question it, the way it worked, how much of it was just fancy physics. They seemed to never have an opinion they couldn't back up with some facts, some truth, some evidence. Rune was impressed by this ability of theirs, and decided to appoint them as the clan's judge - not that it mattered, since the dragons of the clan rarely ever had any quarrels of any relevance. This way, they could act as a wise second in command, without having to make it official.
As Blessing grew up, it became clear to everyone that they were in it for the thrill of adventure and action as much as for the satisfaction of an answer, and they were ready to use any mean necessary to find both - possibly at the same time. Their status as "judge" of the clan would not stop them from a fistfight, but nobody doubted that, if asked to speak about any event, object, dragon, or anything, really, they would judge it with a clear head. To the outside world, they seemed to have no personal opinion, or emotion, which Blessing would've found pretty insulting. They had all the emotions every other dragon had, no more and no less: they just never let them get in their way. They hated their job, being idle all the time and only getting called to sit on a chair in the Council area and talk about things that had happened; they loved exploring, studying magic, analyzing things that were happening. However, these emotions would not be beneficial to anyone if expressed at any time during their evaluations: they had a job, and they had to do it. That was all.
When their parents left the clan, Blessing never felt the need to follow them: fighting for a deity they'd never even seen, for ideals that barely mattered to them, simply wasn't appealing to them. They were satisfied with being in the clan, as long as they could study and explore - and Rune would always let them do that to their heart's content, even going with them most of the time. Day after day spent with Rune and Elena, studying magic and exploring the Focal Point, they realized that they were close to Rune as with a mother, and that Elena was like a sister to them.
However, it soon became apparent that Rune's time was coming to an end. Her endless travels had brought her halfway around the world, enriching her, but at the same time enfeebling her; despite the great sorrow, nobody was surprised to see her go. Blessing wasn't, either: they knew about life and death, they knew why they happened, they knew it had to happen. They just couldn't explain the feeling of emptiness they had.
Blessing soon realized that acting was a much better way to fill the void, rather than wallowing in misery like most of the other dragons. They didn't really understand their reactions, nor their words - Rune would've wanted this or that, wish Rune could be there, but Rune couldn't be there anymore, could she? They doubted anybody actually wanted her around in her current state, but for some reason everybody got upset when they tried to remember them that all Rune was now was a rotting corpse.
Still, they kept helping everyone as much as they could, keeping themselves busy, learning as much as they could about magic, barely even sleeping anymore. At some point, it dawned on them that it wasn't just grief that was making life difficult for everyone: it was the physical absence of a leader. They started offering their insight, rather than keeping their observations for themselves, not caring about how much they could upset the others. At first, their comments only raised heads in shock or cofusion; however, after some weeks, everyone in the Council realized how much they valued Blessing's words, and how their rational way of approaching any kind of problem made everything look much easier than they thought it was.
Becoming the clan's leader was only a natural process, like life and death, like the growth of plants, like the force of magic flowing through the Focal Point that Blessing had learned to understand. Sooner than they realized, every dragon was asking their opinion on pretty much anything, and to each of them they kept answering with all they'd learned, weighing the facts as rationally as they could. The clan was listening to them with respect and curiosity, the same look they had when studying the animals of the Focal Point, or Valfar's magic; and with that same respect and curiosity they answered every dragon's question.
There was no declaration, no fanfare, no coronation: in the few months after Rune's passing, they had officially become the clan's new ruler, one who saw through the skin of things, willing to go above and beyond to be the fair ruler of a clan they loved, who loved them.
