They said he was lucky.

Lucky to survive the ambush, lucky breed in comparison to his siblings, lucky coloration.

How Andrick hated that word.

How could he be lucky or fortunate, diety-blessed even as some claimed, when his family was dead? Slaughtered by beasts Andrick couldn't remember, such was his youth when it happened. How fortunate that he was tossed into the world lonesome and bereft of any semblance of care?

Andrick went out into the world with a chip on his shoulder and a maelstrom of emotions in his heart. His tongue sharp and his wit sharper, any dragon that greeted him was met with monotone hostility and insults. Over time his appearance changed to match his hostile nature and Andrick welcomed it.

When he was approached by a friendly Spiral, he was ready to drive him away. But he was instead invited to a new family, a new home instead of his endless wanderings. Gallio was his name and Andrick warily followed him to a world he'd only heard of in passing. A thieves guild, a world for the broken and destitute to rebuild and reconnect with the world around them at their own pace and skill level. Andrick slowly grew under their careful and kind tutelage, more focused on Mercer's assassination skills than Gallio's pickpocketing.

Sure, his bad luck seems to infect the others at times, like when Bryn tripped into that prison cell or when the Wasp contingent botched that numbers job, or when Mercer and Gallio were murdered in front of everyone and Bryn manipulated into forgetting it by magic and only Andrick himself being able to help the Nocturne when the magic started to fail and harm the smaller drake Andrick counts himself lucky now.

A found family, superior skills, and a home.
