Sometimes, Moth wished he had walked a different path in life. He wished that if his fate was already set, that he would have been gifted a different one. It seemed that he couldn’t escape the doubt that followed his every move and decision. Was all the pain he endured in his life really worth the joy that came with it?
Perhaps so. Sure, his life wasn’t perfect by any stretch, but he had the ground under his feet and always the whisper of the trees to keep him company when he felt lost. While deep in his thoughts, Moth couldn’t pinpoint the exact moment when things begin to change. One moment he feels like falling to the dirt and giving himself over to helplessness, and the next he’s breathing with the wind and laughing with the birds and running with the streams that trickle across the land.
But eventually, Moth always awakens cold and weak. All the voices of Sornieth leave him once again to himself. He knows that if he could just let go of all of his doubts, and forget the scars torn into his skin, he could truly join them. Lately, he’s thought about it more and more frequently. It’s odd, really, since Moth couldn’t say he was unhappy where he is now.
He isn’t home, there’s no solid home to be found for him, but it’s close. It’s light and it’s stability but more importantly it’s safety, and if he buries himself in the ruins long enough he can just about forget the call that the wilds beckon him with. If he could just ignore it long enough, perhaps the call would fade away; If he just ignores it long enough he could just believe everything was all a fantastical dream. And then, when they came for him with their green eyes gleaming with “curiosity”, he could tell them that he didn’t know what they were talking about.
Because the dragons with the green eyes are hurtful. They are greedy and cruel. They only want what he has, his gift. If only he could tell them that their very want is what keeps Sorneith from speaking to them. If only he could tell them that if they forget themselves for just a moment, and listened to the trees and the foxes and the bugs without wanting, then they could have it too.
But no, he couldn’t tell them. They wouldn’t listen. All he would get for the effort would be more tears and more scars. So, he would stay here. He would turn himself away from the call, and then come running back when he couldn’t stand the separation even a moment longer. He could wish all he wanted, but in the end this was his fate, his path to walk.
But maybe, he thought, it was worth it.

Quote:
I like the nature spirit idea, but I also thought of another thing. Maybe a nomadic acolyte healer who has become almost indistinguishable from the forest? You could even have his lore be something along the lines of nature-born dragons shunning/hunting him because they have striven their lives to be as close to the Labyrinth as he has, but he has achieved it before them even as a wind dragon.
