Biography

The roar of ocean waves crashing against rocks woke the small cove. The sun crept over the horizon, bringing light to the blue and black world. The sunrays stretched across the waves, sparkling. Water flowed in and out of the cove at its leisure. The harsh waves felt like an outside world. Fish the color of sand and crabs with shells on their backs made this little oasis their home. And at the center of it all, wrapped around a stone that sat on the shoreline, Pnyas slept.
With the sun hanging comfortably on the horizon, the Mermfae’s eyes fluttered like fish fins. P?yas stretched his neck and body, slithering around the rock till just his tail was still wrapped around it. Then—as quickly as he awakened, he skittered across the wet sand and into the waves. There he opened his wings and began to glide across the current like a sting-ray. Despite the ease of it all, Pnyas was on high alert. This was his cove, away from his clan and away from any other dragons. Had there been another Mermfae present—even any other dragon, Pnyas relative smallness would be more apparent. But the fish and crabs did not know better. In fact, they were hardly aware they even lived alongside the fae, swimming and scuttling and foraging as if they were in any other cove riding any other wave.
But Pnyas believed—nay! Knew, this was his domain.
After checking the perimeter of the cove, Pnyas rushed to a cavern hidden among the rocks that protected the cove his belly rubbing against the sand bottom. Sliding through a fissure in the rocks, much too small for most dragons to fit through, Pnyas entered his vault. A collection of odds in ends, some valuable others not. It mattered not to Pnyas whether he found gold or a peculiarly shaped rock. What mattered was it was his, not his pod’s or a gift for a hatchling. Pnyas couldn’t remember how long he had gathered for the Mermfae nor could he remember when he left the pod to build his own, private, treasury.
