With competition at the time growing increasingly fierce, and prey scarcer, a pack of Wildclaws migrated to the Hewn City from the Viridian Labyrinth long, long ago, where their name originates from. As their numbers began rather small, the native residents of their new territory paid little enough heed to their activities. This made easy pickings for the Hunters, who were used to battling it out for scraps of meat, and as their population expanded, they took to terrorizing their more peaceful neighbours. A joint effort by other Light dragons led to a sound thrashing of the Hunters, and a scattering of their numbers. However, Hewn Hunters have always been deathly loyal to kin, and even reduced to small pockets of their former glory, they continued to stick together, preserving and maintaining their unique culture through the ages.

The modern day Hunter can be found in any region of the Sunbeam Ruins. Each band has their own carefully guarded hunting grounds, and encroachment on another band's territory is most often the cause for fighting. Rarely do Hunters come into conflict with non-Hunters nowadays.

The day variant of Hewn Hunters are the ones most often seen and encountered by dragons outside of the group, and tend to be more sociable than their nocturnal counterparts. Day Hunters are usually on the lower rungs of the hierarchy, being charged with non-hunting duties. The exceptions to this are the artisans, who come almost exclusively from the day Hunters, and are highly revered by their clanmates. Night Hunters are the ones given the duty of hunting and defending the clan, and are the vanguard in every battle.

Though they still retain the bloodlust and ferocity of their ancestors, their love of battle has been tempered with a love for art. Though they have disdained most other scholarly pursuits beloved of Light flight, Hunters excel at archaeology, painting, and decoration. Their love of sparkly trinkets is notorious, though one shouldn't make the mistake of thinking they have poor business sense. Day Hunters are shrewd traders and negotiators. Their love of adornment have led to Hunters painting their bodies in elaborate, sometimes garish and brightly coloured patterns. Generally the fancier and more colourful a Hunter is, the higher their status in Hunter society, with young, untried Hunters lacking any paint at all. Painting of the bodies is a sacred task given to a certain artisan in each clan, and the artisan's refusal to paint a Hunter renders them an undragon in the eyes of their clan.

Once a year, Hewn Hunters from all across the Sunbeam Ruins will come together for an exclusive festival. Outsiders are generally forbidden, and to be invited is a great honour. Since opportunities to prove themselves in battle have become few and far between, the Hunters gathered spend two weeks sparring, competing, and participating in ritualized fighting for honour and glory. This is capped by an extravagant feast, in which each clan and hunter seek to outdo another.
