Nova

Nova had been born in the Tsunami Flats, one of many children born in a clan devoted to the Tidelord and the interpretation of his prophecies. He was a young dragon, only recently free from his hatchling years and settled into the admittedly diminuitive size of his adult shape, and thus far, he had spent his entire life in the freshwater territories of the Sea of a Thousand Currents. He had never seen anything of the world beyond the great sea that had once been home to the Tidelord.

And for all that, he desired nothing more than to soar away from it all. To dive not into the white-crested waves of the sea but into the whirling, roiling joy of the wind.

He wished to dance with the wind and finally cross the barrier of cliffs and reeds and join the joyous cries of the wind dragons he so often saw soaring over head. Water dragons swam, but those of the Wind Flight knew how to truly soar.

He had never once spoken of these ambitions - too scared to speak what he knew was true, what he had known from the moment he first caught a glimpse of a brightly colored dancing soaring over head. But he was a hatchling no longer. He was grown, and even the Tidelord knew that he did not belong. Where all others his age had graduated to Junior Oracle - and some even higher - he had shown not a single sign of prophetic ability. He did not belong here.

Well, not here, in the Sea of a Thousand Currents. But here where he stood now, at the border between wind and water?

This was the place he was meant to be. He knew it. He knew it.

And with a beat of his wings, he sought to prove it - soaring high over the bamboo reeds of the Reedcleft Ascent.
