The Coveted, The Conqueror

Behold the Gentry, those who shine exultant with scales in shimmering hues, with eyes that glint with gold, with voices that cajole with ethereal grace. Yet they grow monstrous on the sickening nectar of jealousy, the indulgence of the immortal. They speak the tongue of deceit, they dance the waltz of treachery, creatures who are so lithe and agile in speech and action that their words have become ways of wounding, each carefully spun phrase akin to a gleaming blade. Yet it is a gorgeous sight to see the masterpiece that is ichor running freely down a bejeweled back. Oh, Envy, she is the only sovereign over the Fair Folk. Although their pride may veil them, it is known that each one of them will wilt into elegant curtsies or any courtly submission to their covetous nature. But what is it, that makes the Gentry so incurably rife with greed? It is not some exquisite trove that a cruel, or perhaps wise deity has denied to them. It is simply expression -- in song, in art, in poetry. Such gifts were lost when their cores, once bright as bursting stars, calcified with bitterness as they grew ill on the hedonistic obsession of playing as the divine. And so, they decorated their exteriors, not yet consumed by rot, with opulence. Their glistening facades are quite an extravagant measure, I must say, to mask corruption that is so blatant. But how do they seek to fulfill this consuming craving? It is with the unfortunate mortals so pitifully blessed with these gifts. The Gentry seek them, ensnare them, and savor them with careless battering. When they are spent, however, they are spit back into their realm -- and silenced. I am the one who seeks them. I am the one who guides them home, and as for the horrors they cannot bring themselves to say, I speak for them with steel.

Foe Forsaken

He bid his love farewell and then,
In witness of the seraphim,
Vowed to perish with him in his heart

He took up his salve song
And followed the somber path along
To the place where the saints once died

His sword was brandished with such pride
Gleaming as the time he bides
Calling on the blessings of silent gods

And as the palace rose ahead
The tyrant's people freely bled
The time of vengeance burns with imminence

Against the king he boldly rushed
And struck him with impassioned force enough
That the crown proved no mightier than blade

In dying throes, the vanquished ruler raged
Finishing the futile war he waged
Calling that heroes too, must one day succumb

To the sentinels the king cried
To avenge his grotesque regicide
And with that, he let his soul depart

For justice he had nobly fought
Yet he his valor was for naught
As our hero spent his days in servitude

He suffered relinquished strife
As the innocent died under his forced knife
Before the blade fell upon his embittered heart

Bear witness to his tragedy
And hail him in elegy
For blood dries, but sometimes ghosts remain
