Living Shadow

Name: Ylvess
Obtained: Hatched in the Nesting Grounds
Originally was: Spiral

Boreas was once a friendly Spiral, but disappeared one day out of the blue. Nobody saw him for a month, and many wondered what had happened to him after searches to find him turned up nothing.

Varath and Storm, generally keeping away from others of the clan by Varath's choice and his sister's insistence on keeping him company, were the ones to find him. Exploring the deeper tunnels the Ridgebacks had dug under the lair, they were alarmed to see smoke coming from a hidden cave. On exploring, they were assaulted by more smoke and startled wings trying to push back into the wall of the cave as the dragon they belonged to attempted to flee.

After awhile, Varath managed to calm the poor dragon down, and the two Fae discovered that somehow Boreas had woken one day to his body changing on himself, and he'd fled under the lair to hide. Something that was incredibly easy to do with his dark colouration and the smoke that wrapped around his feet and head. He'd been hiding ever since, eating only the small rodents that also lived in the tunnels. He believed himself a bad omen, having even been one to be unnerved by the Skydancer Aromis and his words.

Varath, having been on the end of the Skydancer's words more than once, understood. It took some doing, but eventually he convinced Boreas to rejoin the clan as his and Storm's friend. Boreas took the name Ylvess, and spends most of his time hidden in the shadows, following Varath and helping Storm to keep him safe. It was only after several other Banescales joined the clan that everyone worked out what exactly it was that Ylvess had been turned into. He hopes that one day, he'll find out why he'd suddenly transformed.

As predicted, Aromis believes that Ylvess is another omen, and believes it especially bad luck that he is friends with Varath.
