Horus may not be the oldest or most experienced of the guards. But he did not become a captain with honeyed words or good luck either. He had his chances to prove his worth.

Horus learned a lot from his parents. And the rest he learned from the experienced guards and warriors. He soon noticed that he could not rely on brutal strength of magical competence - his talent was elsewhere. Not only was he able to take a hit - when the enemy managed to land one on him that is - but even as a hatchling he showed exceptional intelligence and memory for a tundra dragon.

After a small group of the clan's dragon, including Resistance, Horus's father and the previous captain of the guard disappeared without a trace, Horus was not the strongest candidate to take on the role as the new captain. But in the end, his intelligence and charming nature had won over some of the oldest fighters of the clan who vouched for him, getting him the promotion he had never even dreamed of.
