Biography

A long time ago, a long long time ago, Proserpina hatched to a a Fire dragon newsboy and a shadowy mother known only as The Air Maiden, burned with many rows of eyes down her otherwise celestial body. As she grew older, she found herself in the company of nature dragons - learning that wonderful art of coaxing plants to grow, big and strong and beautiful. She was just as haughty and superior as her family, a sister with special ID numbers and a mystical and important mother before her.

A dragon, vivid and new, took a fancy to her. His scales were shimmery, wisteria-dark and skink gene streaking his face in a tired green. Proserpina spent a lot of time curled up by his side, watching her pearl, watching him watch her watch him through the reflection.

One day, he left. Fittingly, it rained. It rained for days, for weeks, or maybe only one day. Time didn't seem real, with a dragon-shaped hole in her heart. How could such a thing happen and not reflect in her pearl? If it was her, how could something so big not be seen in its ivory sheen?

Cracks or not, what use was a dragon in this world without a mate? Not a single egg to her name made a useless breeder. So, as these things went, Proserpina followed her siblings to the auctions. Once there, she had a lot of time to rest and think back. Did he say goodbye? Did he say something? (Maybe he said nothing - not even to her.)

Dragons passing by caught her eye almost daily. Just the right scales, wisteria but crystal. The right shine, the wrong colour. The right eyes, they looked just like his, watching her watch through the reflections of her pearl. She locked eyes with him time and time and time again, but every time she looked up he wasn't there. Just in the reflection.

She was chosen for her colours, for her sight. She was brought to a new lair, Shadowland, given a garden and a familiar and the clothes she asked for. But soon to join after her was a dragon, one who took a fancy to her.

His scales were shimmery, glowing amethyst and robin lighting up his face in a soporific blue. His form was hypnotizing, but Hightower was cold and up to no good, grinning at her, light dancing off his iridescent antlers every time he made a deal with another unfortunate.

He flattered her wherever he could, saying she was beautiful, that she matched, purple and green, green and purple, she knew the beauty of lived in Nature. She completed him. She was special, wonderful, above all the rest. She was the only one that could make him feel this way, he never knew how he lived before meeting her.

She curled up next to him and watched him watch her watch him. Proserpina could swear that this is what she was looking for, that he'll complete her, he'll fix the hole in her soul.

When she could see them, in quiet and suffocating nights together, his eyes glinted with a possessive gleam. Glittering amethyst scales above her, a royal purple wing arched protectively, trappingly, around her. The scattered rays left in her empty heart are wisteria-dark and leafy green.

Proserpina can't help but remember a reflection of another's eyes, merely echos left in her pearl.
