FARMINGTON an underlying sense of the way it all fits together // despite our collective tendency not to conceive of it as such

COMPONENTS: A spark of metal striking rock, gunpowder, incense and well-worn pages.

Born to a world of curses and deep, malign magics from both of her parents. Where some might flinch away, Farmington tilted into these things. To harness the effects of a spell in ways that warp reality and tear away at flesh and wield it against others is less her intention though.

Her aim is to learn about these principles in order to counter them, walk back the damage. Understanding a danger at its very core will allow you to not only wield it more responsibly, but how best to form counter spells.

While still fairly new in this course of study, she's drawn to Peklo after hearing word of the sickness currently afflicting it, the hex mage was met mostly with hostility as she began to ask questions. Scared, trying to protect their bottom line, unwilling to hand the nature of their plight to somebody who is asking too many questions. It's the relentless curiosity she chases that led her to Khua and the rest of Mothsmantle, though.

IDRIS The world snapped beneath your feet //
and every thing that was alive, it died

COMPONENTS: saloons and swinging doors, the taste of airborne dust, playing cards with yellowed edges, the gleam of something left in the sand.

Idris is what more generous folks would describe as lacking in scruples. Those who are less inclined to waste nice words on him would say he's a [redacted]. Even the other Moths regard him with a measure skepticism, in fact, it's where most criticism comes from.

You see, Idris was on his own for the most part while growing up, didn't have much in the way of role models when he had no family to speak of. He went on to spend spent much of his teenage years rolling between smalltime gangs, just a scrappy kid with no particular merits aside from a head that was good for scheming and an uncanny low sense of self-preservation.

He's an outsider, a ruffian, the exact sort that fell under the heavy talons of the law. Or he would have, if he hadn't decided to try a b&e on Khua's house. Since being offered a place to stay and a chance to avoid being turned in, Idris hasn't taken any special pains to endear himself to the Moths; his interactions with them often being card games that end in him weaseling some trinket off of them. Has a steadily growing hoard of earrings and coins in his quarters, apparently.

Things have certainly gone belly-up lately, though, what with the air, or dirt, or whatever making people fall apart at the seams. The Mothsmantle Hunters take help where they can get it, even if the cat literally did drag it in.

COYNE

Expert on magically volatile materials and handling, disposal and disaster mitigation expert particularly.

Has studied several sites: one Earth Flight location, excavators struck a section of the pillar roughly the size of a decent boulder. Immediate impact zone was deemed unrecoverable, but evacuation of nearby towns within a several mile radius was met with some success. Dragons were able to passively absorb and/or expel it due to their high magical affinity, but magical abberations were immediately obvious in local beastclan populations, which offered concerning insight as to what the long-term impact of these magics may be.

Remote inspection of the site (flyover with spell-assisted scoping) revealed dragons and beastclan in the immediate impact zone display traits consistent with the infamous Emperors. Currently, Coyne entertains a theory that posits massive organic conduits for magic, like Imperials, makes them prone not to leeching their magic on death but instead tend to act as a sistern, pulling it in.

White rot deer carries a specialized colony of fungus that excels at filtering and nullifying some of the more harmful properties of volatile magic. Usually keeps it close by while travelling. Advises against consuming fruiting bodies directly off of it but open to the idea of cultivating some for consumption?

SEVI

COMPONENTS: The strong scent of ozone, freshly-sanitized tile, ammonia.

A field medic by trade, Sevi embraces modernization of medicine with a bit too much enthusiasm for throwing new ideas at the wall. Surgery is still an unexplored field, and field surgery is pretty dicey.

He's incredibly suspicious of patent medicine, though, living by an adage of 'cure-alls cure nothing.'

Consults with a network of similar-minded doctors, most of them being from Plague, Light and Lightning.

Sevi is fastidiously clean and keeps bottles of antiseptics, clean rags, and carefully sterilized tools in his many pouches.

His lantern is a gift from one of his contacts in Lightning, a glass jar of electricity. Great for lighting in a pinch, but he also tinkers with additional applications. (It's probably where his myriad of suspiciously shaped scars came from.) And it's also probably why his ideas haven't been terribly readily embraced by Peklo, his residence on the fringes of the city and largely avoided by most. Except for the Moths.
