Wherever he wanders, there is sweet song. It is one of Melchior's only skills, his gift for music, and he trusts in it with everything he has. Whether with his voice or by pipe or by strings, he brings musical harmony with him every hour of every day.

He discovered his gift for melody young, when his parents found him tapping away cheery rhythms against books, and whistling back at the birds with his new compositions. He was restless and moved to a drumbeat no one else seemed to hear, at least not until he had given it full life.

Now, though, everyone hears the songs that have followed him all his life, performed in their full glory on whatever instrument Melchior has at hand. It makes him a rather noisy fellow, but at least he takes great pride in and joy from his wandering work. What better way is there to live?
