Biography
Most of the Goa'uld race are parasites who control the hosts they take.
Some, like the Tok'ra, were spawned from a queen who had very different ideas on what symbiosis means and how to coexist with their hosts.
Rare are the Goa'uld outliers who made their own choices. Ones who were spawned from a queen who was the typical vile parasite who saw itself as a god; a deity to all other life forms and sought to control all around them. Despite this programmed genetic memory, they choose a different path. They may fully meld minds with their host; this 'blending' as the Tok'ra call it allows both host and symbiote to share thoughts and emotions and become two halves of one.
What one feels, so the other does too.
Salma is the symbiote; her host, a fairly shy yet intelligent young woman with a caring heart. Salma heard many things from her host in the initial months of control; pleas for freedom, begging to know why her body had been taken from her and her mind made prisoner. Eventually, her mourning grew silent and was replaced with something most Goa'uld hate but generally all ignore: pity.
Salma's host wished she could know love and compassion and found it awful that her serpentine heart was filled with such coldness, such hatred. She shared thoughts and memories willingly with the Goa'uld, who found it as annoying and wasteful as her parasitic brethren; though unlike the other symbiotes, she didn't suppress her host's mind and allowed her to freely speak. At times, the host even gave decent observations and advice; one such tip saved Salma alone from being discovered as a Goa'uld and would most certainly have led to extrication and death.
Years after taking her as a host, Salma finally made the ultimate choice; to do what separated false gods from all others of her species: to blend with the host. She found the process easy yet so jarring that she felt as though she had died. Her mind was no longer her own; new thoughts and ideas and memories flashed through it. That of her host.
Her thought patterns were being influenced as well. New emotions she had never felt before were freely shared by her host; feelings her species had never experienced before. Feelings that she would one day realize to be a sacred gift of blending; a benefit given to the symbiote by the willing host.
They had become one. They shared emotions. They shared awe. They shared ideas, and though at first they had many disagreements over almost all aspects of life and the direction theirs would take, they eventually found harmony.
Salma is no longer a cold, ruthless creature who only craves domination and subjugation. She works alongside SG-1 and utilizes her genetic memory to their benefit, and teaches them the ways in which a Goa'uld thinks while they teach her their ways in return.
Her host was from a planet they called PCX-578, but was known to its local people by Harena. She went by the name Al'ani, but upon blending with her symbiote, she preferred to be known as Salma to others and simply 'friend' to Salma herself.
Salma still enjoys being treated like royalty. She goes about her life with grace and demands respect, but also gives it in return to those she works with. SG-1 interests her as does the human race and she often joins Stargate personnel for activities off-base that involve hobbies, pastimes, and pop-culture that expand her worldview and make her appreciate her host's race even more.
Often seen spending time with Daniel Jackson, both claiming 'consulting' on alien artifacts. He's the only one who truly treats her like royalty; he's also the only one she truly treats as an equal.
