 B I O G R A P H Y
During your travels you find the ruins of an ancient city. Within them, you stumble upon two messengers setting up camp for the night. One of them sings you a melancholic ballad.
A castle in the sky... I sought it out one day just messengers business Deliver letters maps and scrolls and pay the king a visit That's when I found you little child starved and wild And I thought I'd right a wrong and ask for you to find a home But dead kings silent court they saw something I cannot Before I could say a word they lead you to the throne It was all gemstones glass and gold, wires feeding into walls And I saw the horror on your face as the needle touched your veins And what came out was dark and gold a rare fuel I was told While face down on the palace floor. I don't remember anymore What I told you on that day back when I wore a different face All I know is flying off the castle wall I prayed for you alone. You can't kill a messenger this easily, of course, but... I wondered if we're doomed to weave fates poisoned web, Forever her unwilling pets, ushering unhappy ends I cursed myself, I cursed the world, I cursed the looming castle walls And even when I felt brave I still ran away in shame I cast my thread into the pyre but I was still not a fighter All I did was hide and lie and flinch when I heard your name It all changed one day, we got a message to relay To the king most urgently, and there was no one I was told Except us to bear the toll and though I looked nothing like before I felt my blood running cold as we ascended. But all we found was empty halls, royal chambers full of smoke When we reached the throne room it was almost empty No sight of guards or the court, shattered jewels on the floor Bleeding out on the throne sat a man in golden robes I wondered if you saw sunlight these years at all But there was no time anymore I tore the seal off the scroll It said "beware invasion from the north" it was too late of course Engine sputtering below as the walls began to fall The ancient mechanism coming to a screeching halt I just hope you didn't have to hear the castle fall And now among the hills and ruins there stands A nameless grave to someone not forgotten They say that flowers grow there dark and golden And their petals float towards the sun, but that is just a story Like the story of the castle in the sky... |
