With a flash, the illusions suddenly appear. Apparitions of former dragons face off against the almost eldritch monstrosity before them. They can't hold for long, the monster easily rips through each and every one of them, but it would take time. Time is what Pavonine needs.

She looks over at an old Imperial by her side, trying and failing to do anything other than frown. 'You know what needs to happen.'

The Imperial nods and puts on a soft smile for his daughter, his eyes gleaming with unshed tears. 'I do. Do you know how to do it?'

Pavonine nods back and glances away. 'I do.'

'Then let's get it over with.'

She hesitates, looking up at her father one last time, before looking away again and bringing her front claws together. A small little ball of light forms in between them, and she slowly pulls her hands away to allow the light to start shifting and twisting in on itself like a snake. As she and her father watch, the snake straightens into a small pole with golden feathers on one end, the whole thing shining as bright as the sun.

Pavonine then turns to her father, never looking up at his face as she reaches into his chest. Out comes a small arrowhead, made out of the same wood as the great behemoth. She fits the arrowhead onto the pole, engraves it with the name 'Theron', and turns to face the monster.

She doesn't watch as her father collapses. She doesn't watch as the illusionist finally removes the ghostly dragons and falls to the ground in exhaustion. She doesn't watch as her mother rushes towards her father. She keeps her eyes on the thing.

It screeches in triumph at the defeated illusions, its many arms raising up in victory. It then turns to her, its countless pairs of eyes and gaping maw burning with pure white fire. Then, it lurches toward. Every limb moving in time to bring it to a stumbling sprint. Pavonine raises the arrow up with a hand, the thing made purely of
Hope and Sacrifice , and launches it forwards.

Time almost seems to stop. The arrow makes its way forward, tiny stars trailing behind it in the air. The thing opens its jaw even further, almost splitting itself into two, in preparation for another ear-shattering screech. It doesn't think of the arrow as a threat, no, not until it burrows deep into it's chest. It doesn't even register the burning pain until it almost reaches Pavonine. There, time resumes.

It screeches again- no, doesn't screech, but screams. It screams, a loud and discordant sound that deafens all close enough to hear it. Its many limbs and tendrils writhe as it stumbles backwards, wings catching on stray brambles and branches of the surrounding foliage. Its eyes seem to bleed the same white fire they were filled with before, and its maw finally splits itself into two.

The two pieces lay on strong trees and bushes, supported by their skeleton branches. It'll take more than a year for them to seep into the ground, a mixture of dark oil and pale acid, but it'll happen. It'll take less than a minute for Pavonine to turn around and walk away, and she'll never look backwards at her grieving mother. She will find a new clan, and she will find new friends. Her work is finally done.

It won't rise again.

Pavonine, though a dragon of Plague, seems more like one of Light. Her coloring and small, innate ability with some sort of light magic, often lends people to believe that she was born in the Lightweaver's lands. Her eyes are the only things on her that betray her place of birth, and she often tries to hide them. She knows what other clans think of Rejin, and she doesn't want those same thoughts directed at her. However, even though she's concerned about her connection to her home flight, it's not what her greatest fear is.

No, it's what would happen if another dragon were to see her.. "familiar", if she can even call it such. It normally stays inside her den, lurking in the shadows away from prying eyes, though she can't help but worry. How would she explain it? That she visited the Shadowbinder's territory and came back with something following her? Something that only seemed to speak telepathically, a burst of discordant voices suddenly appearing in one's mind and shaking their sanity loose? Something that only spoke in versions of a long lost illusionist's voice? No, she could not explain it, and that's why she's hiding it for as long as she can.

Other than her sun-like appearance and apparent deafness, she's also often silent. She stays near the edges of camp, "listening" but never speaking, alone with her thoughts and the swirling emotions of others surrounding her. She isn't as energetic as those of her species usually are, and thus quickly tire of hatchlings coming to her looking for tricks. However, she's careful not to snap at them, and instead leads them towards another dragon who's more willing to listen to them.

Not much is known about her past. Others can only gather information from travelers who know her by chance, and even then all they know is that she visited the Shadowbinder's territory, and that she doesn't know where her parents are. Or.. she at least hasn't visited them.
