Personality
The celestial bodies of the universe have sung to each other with an acoustic beyond sound since the beginning of time. You might be able to hear them too- if only you stop in a silent place to listen. And if you know how to, you can sing right back at them.

Spun from the very song of the stars, it is no surprise that Hal knows how to garner the attention of the wider universe- though it is certainly a wonder to watch. While the content of his own songs -replies to the cosmos’ questions- are almost pitifully boring compared to the grandiose of the gesture, as a celestial minstrel of sorts he strives to maintain just, positive relations with the essences of all the planets, moons, and stars in a hundred-light-year radius. No use dooming Sorneith a few thousand years later due to the karma of a single minstrel’s misused diplomatic privileges, after all.

Hal treats planetary residents with the same overly dramatic yet placating mindset- the ones he talks to, that is. As much as he’d like to socialise with everyone in the Isles, the general stigma against treating deep space as a collection of kingdoms instead of a scientific or spiritual mega-entity renders his opinions obsolete amongst scientists and mages alike. For now, he makes do with his bodyguard Haeli and the gracious dragons of Wonderstark.

Despite his dainty appearance and histrionic behaviour, the coatl is far from helpless thanks to his celestial-blessed diplomatic immunity. As long as there are cosmic rays radiating through the air, he can arm himself to the teeth with burning blades and beams. If he finds himself in serious danger, he can beseech help from nearby celestial bodies. And if all else fails, a glimpse at his unveiled eyes would be more than enough to fry the mind of another creature.

That being said, when push comes to shove, he would be more than happy to act as the gallant hero who successfully convinces hostile parties to hug it out instead of the avenger that everyone secretly fears.

Background (featuring the talent of ladylilitu)
It is said there was a time when primeval magic ruled the world, and an ordinary dragon could hear the song of the stars just by virtue of being alive.

Those days are gone now. But Hal remains.

Vintage doesn’t know if Hal means, necessarily, to cause harm. But harm he causes, with his songs not of this world, and so he’s been secured and contained in Wonderstark. At least, until the Observatory can figure out best how to neutralize the threat he poses.

When Hal first came to Wonderstark, the song he hummed was so loud, so powerful, so sorrowful. It spoke to Vintage’s heart, whispered tales of stars beyond Sornieth, of comets, of entire galaxies and universes and worlds and how they imploded and reformed and-

They had to turn him into a slug to stop him from singing, for Arcanist’s sake.

His song is barely audible now, two months after his confinement.

He worries, sometimes (not really, he always does), about Hal.

Vintage sets the tray of food and water he’s holding down next to him.

Hal stares blankly at it, and he is struck with a single, absurd thought: do beings made of starstuff even need to eat? Has he just committed a celestial faux pas?

We are all made of starstuff, Hal whispers in a voice raspy from disuse, the first time he has spoken since being taken into custody–maybe since forever, and it shakes Vintage to his stardust bones.

They hum.

And Vintage hums with them.

If ever you find yourself in Clan Wonderstark and listen carefully...

Sometimes you can hear the song of the stars.
