Matt was blinded in an accident as a young cub- an accident that left him with extremely heightened senses. He eventually learned to filter and understand the input, and how to navigate the world based on scent, sound, and touch.

Matt arrived at Corona University alongside his partner Foggy, and they made the decision to stay when Wade arrived on campus shortly afterward, and Matt found himself reunited with his two chaotic cohorts. While he's with Foggy Matt is relatively calm and respectable, but when he goes running with Wade and Peter the trio's chaos factors increase exponentially. Everyone who witnesses this claims Murdock becomes a completely different dragon.

Matt spends his time alternating between acting as campus security alongside Wade, hanging out with Foggy (relatively calmly), or with Wade and Peter (not at all calmly), and teaching the students various skills. Said lessons range from how to win an argument with words, how to win an argument with violence, how to navigate while blindfolded, and whatever else he thinks the student needs to learn at the time.
