Biography
"The sunset is beautiful this evening. Pity I'm here for such an occasion."
A dragon covered in dark rosettes sits on the edge of the beach, with water lapping at his clawtoes. His plumage almost matches the hues of orange and teal in the sky, though something's in the distance. He seems disgruntled in expression, but still relatively calm at the same time.
"I don't have to hide anymore. I am going to be myself from now on. I make this promise to the sea."
He turns a silver bangle over in his handclaws, sitting up on his haunches in an upright position, looking regal and decisive. The bangle catches the fading sunlight, scattering flecks of light off its faceted surface. It's beautiful, but clear that it represents something negative. Skylark narrows his eyes and tosses it, and it goes flying like a disembodied ring of Saturn, far off into the sea. It lands with a *sploonk*, and sinks, becoming obscured by sediment and depth.
"He might have loved me once, but now that I'm being myself, he doesn't? I don't get it. Curse this promise ring."
The skydancer stands up from his seat at the water, and turns away, having done what he needed to do. Beating his wings heavily, he begins to chug towards the cliff face, gaining some air and hop-skipping repeatedly as he begins to come up off the ground. He scales the rocky wall that hangs over the ocean below, wings helping him climb by providing some lift. Soon he's at the peak, and he curls his tail around himself, settling back down, closer to the sky. The air is heavy, here on the rocky beach, humidity high. It's heavy like his heart.
Clouds in the distance flicker, a storm is coming. Skylark stares off into the distance, half at the ocean, half at the sky. The rain will cleanse him of this sorrow, the night will rejuvenate him of this lethargy, and he'll welcome the sunshine tomorrow.
