Biography

UMBRAL

Bralum, as he was named before, used to be part of the Overseer Order, deep in the Dripcave Dregs, a proud individual that scorned those below him and coveted those above, thinking nothing when he used others as stepping stones as that was the way he was raised by his family. Despite his terrible personality, his life was good, great even and he was an amazing warrior and jailer that was (begrudgingly) admired by his fellows.

This all changed when he was given the task to guard one of the most ancient and dangerous horrorbeasts that were below, it was an immense honor bestowed by few since the creature despite not as big as most things frozen deep within their domain was known to mess with the minds of their jailers no matter how many eons it was encapsulated and frozen by ancient and powerful ice magic, it's voice and whispering could not be contained.

It took three months, only that for Bralum's fall. He was able to ignore it in the beginning, but as the days passed by he was slowly having more and more gaps in his memory and waking up as if he didn't sleep at all... when such symptoms started it was imperative to report and ask for a replacement, but because Snow, his younger brother had lasted six months without problem as a guard to an even more dangerous beast his pride couldn't take the blow and so he kept quiet while his mind was slowly but surely ravaged by the monster below the ice.

When the fourth month came he was consumed by darkness.

When he woke up again he wasn't in the prison, nor his home... nor anywhere near he knew, he was outside roaming through the Reclaimer's desert that he only heard of from stories, with blood on his paws and the shade oozing from every crevice of his body, his mind silent like a gaping hole have been left there.

He despaired, of course he despaired, he was alone, robbed of everything he knew and held dear with a pervading feeling that if he ever tried to go back he was going to be eradicated like the creatures he once guarded. Bralum roamed for a long time, until his paws were sore and bleeding and the oozing shade stopped dripping, his mind in a haze of despair and regret and so much longing it was almost a physical pull, he missed his home more than anything.

He changed his name to Umbral, afraid someone of his former order would recognize him by chance if he ever crossed paths with them, or worse hunted him down after hearing his name from someone.

The years after passed in a haze of desperation and hunger, he used to be a great warrior, but the creature that did this to him weakened his body and no matter how much he tried to wash off the oozing darkness would never stop completely, he had to relearn how to hunt with his body and come to terms he was now a pariah with his strange appearance and oozing eyes and was not welcome by others, much less his kin.

He learned to survive, alone and weakened and also humility was carved against his will into his very bones, many times when he thought to be on the verge of death it was thanks to a kind soul and a helping hand that he survived. He learned as well how terrible of a person he have been in the past, the jeers and even sometimes the violence others reacted to him wasn't that much different than how he perceived others in the past, despite his ordeal, he was grateful to have shed this part of himself even if it was through a terrible cost.

After many years it was in the solace of a floating library that he finally found peace, a gentle giant found him perched on one of it's spires, trembling after a terrible storm robbed him of the ground and threw him in the air until he grabbed the first thing he came in contact with his claws, the giant's name was Epimetheus and he offered shelter in what he later learned was the Imperial's personal quarters within the library.

The room is large and the ambient is so very peaceful that sometimes Umbral has to find a dark corner and stay there until the overwhelming feeling pass, he rarely goes out since the kind Imperial said he could stay as long as he wanted and he fears to stain things with his oozing body, even tough it got a lot better over the years and even more after being rescued by Epi. The librarian is a busy creature, so Umbral don't see him very often despite living in his quarters, but despite that Umbral feels for the first time since his whole world fell down that he was able to make a true friend.
