"I will purge the evil from this world."

Caecilius was born in the Sunbeam Ruins, tucked away in the Mirrorlight Promenade. His mother and father had left the Southern Icefield as high-ranked seekers, and had Caecilius as an only child. He has never seen their homeland of ice and bitter cold, nor the society of his species. Although his parents taught him much, unable to bring him back to the icefield due to their mission and the shade they where tracking, he longed to be a part of the Gaoler society and to be recognized among his brethren. Although he was never able to officially join an order, he had hopes to join the Keeper order in the Icefield one day. Once he came of age, he planned to leave his parents and travel to the Icefield to join his chosen order. But when the day finally came that he could travel out on his own, he found himself wondering if the keepers would accept a stranger who they had never seen before. How could they trust that he could do what they required of him? Everyone in his life had known him as someone who always got into trouble and never did the right thing, so he vowed to prove himself to the dragons he hoped would accept him as their own. 619.png He did, in fact, get into trouble. Instead of setting out for the Icefield directly, he headed out in search of Shade. Perhaps if he brought something containing the Shade to the Fortress of Ends, they would see that he was capable of watching over the prisoners. His travels brought him into the Tangled Wood, a place infested with shadow and darkness. Despite this, it seemed no more Shade-touched than the Ruins, and he found that it was a surprisingly pleasant place. Just as he was getting ready to go elsewhere in his search, he stumbled into a green dragon over twice his size. She was imposing, intimidating, but she did not smell of Shade. As a last resort, he asked her if she had seen any Shade, and felt some relief when her lips curled into a smile and she gave a swift nod, motioning for him to follow her.

Her name, he learned, was Gerathon, and she told him that she had recently imprisoned two Shade-touched dragons and their two eggs. She was keeping them there, she'd said, because she hoped to find a way to clear the shade from the eggs before it was too late for them like it was for their parents. She hoped that Caecilius would stay and watch them for a while before he took them to the prison, while Gerathon attempted to figure out how to withdraw the shade from their clutch, adding that she didn't want to separate them from their parents, as she didn't have time to incubate them herself and that their parents would take care of them out of instinct. She lead Caecilius into a dark cavern, with bars haphazardly installed in it, sectioning off about half the cave.

The Shade-dragon's names where Flamesoul and Clay, a tundra and a guardian respectively. The first thing that he noticed was that they did not smell of Shade. When he questioned Gerathon about it, she'd sighed and said they'd found a way to mask the Shade inside them. They had been leading a clan for years this way, and she'd discovered the ruse by luck. Caecilius hadn't known that was possible! So he set his unease aside and set to work guarding and foraging for them, making sure that they did not escape. When the eggs hatched into newborn tundras, Gerathon said she still might be able to save them, and although she checked in at least once a week, she provided no other info on the situation or why Caecilius still couldn't take Flamesoul and Clay to the prison. And so, he waited.

Role in the Takeover
Caecilius was tricked by Gerathon into helping her hold the Clan's previous leaders, Flamesoul and Clay, as well as their new clutch, hostage. As the days wear on, he grows more and more restless to take them to the Fortress of Ends to prove himself to the Gaolers.
