Lightweaver ♛ ‘Sawl-ace’ ♛ Mate: Silail ♛ Cirro ♛ Ardolen ♛ Galio

______ Solace is a dedicated and powerful mage. She primarily works on offense spells, using these spells as a make-shift shield for others. She's not one to beat around the bush when something needs to be said and is incredibly honest. She is diligent and hard-working, following and giving instructions to the best of her abilities. Recently she has been helping Silail to construct his Academy and is preparing to teach the Magical Studies department.

Of all of the places Solace wanted to travel to, the Icefields was not one of them. She was a light dragon, for the Lightweaver's sake! She was used to sunlight and warmth, not bitter chills and the incredible amount of furred Tundras roaming the glaciers.

She sighed, a puff of steam escaping her chattering jaws. She really couldn't complain. She was being well-cared for, sometimes receiving the best rations and mana supplies, and she was being paid very well. She dragged her talons down her face, rolling her eyes at her own selfish thoughts. She was here to help in the war effort, not complain about it. Even if she wasn't being compensated nicely, she'd still do her best to help in whatever way she could.

"I swear..." she shivered, "These glaciers really do bring out the worst in a dragon."

She fluffed her wings up, the fractal bee pattern casting shimmery golden patterns on her den walls. Might as well get a start on the day. Dragons weren't going to heal themselves.

She couldn't help but think it was clever of the Beastclans to attack mid-winter. Resources were low for both sides of the war, but at least the Beastclans didn't need to clothe themselves to stay warm. Solace sometimes wished she was a Fire Mage. Maybe if she wasn't already so devoted to the Lightweaver, she would take some time to learn it. Perhaps that would quell the frozen beast uprising.

Solace stretched out her wings to their full length as she exited her den, casting dazzling golden patterns on the glaciers. She had to admit, the ice did look quite beautiful in the weak dawn light. It certainly felt wonderful to stretch her wings after being curled in a tight shivering ball all night long.

She sighed and smiled at the weak sunlight, sending her prayers to the Lightweaver.

It was going to be a long day.

Shrieks rang through the air causing Solace to jolt awake. She thudded her head on the top of her little icy igloo, a den meant for a dragon far less skittish than her.

It had only been about two hours since the young Skydancer had called it a day. It was pitch black outside and almost impossible to tell what time of night it was - or even if it was early morning. It was easy to lose track of time in the Icefields.

She jumped again, hearing shrill screams and talons scraping across the jagged ice.

No no no no no, she thought to herself, Not now, not now!. She began rummaging through her satchel, fighting to pull out whatever mana reserves she might have. Crystals? Too weak. Meditation? No, she didn't have time. She eventually gave up with a low hiss, throwing the satchel down in a fit of rage. Turning quickly around in the tight space, she launched herself out of the den and into the thick of the fight.

The camp was practically empty, save for the occasional dimly illuminated body or ransacked den. How had she not heard them come in? Had they broken her wards?

Cursing herself, she launched forward and through a crevice in the ice. She didn't bother to check for survivors. Ice dragons were tough. They would either live until she got back, or they believed themselves to be uninjured enough to continue the fight.

A plume of fire shot out in front of her, a blast that would have very likely charred the light sheen of fur off her body. She squeaked and stumbled back, choosing to run in another direction. The glow of the blast illuminated her path. Ahead she saw several Longnecks charging towards a young, scarred Tundra female.

Solace picked up the pace, stretching her neck forward and charging. Her talons dug into a lump of ice and she cascaded forward, landing (and sliding) between three Longnecks and the Tundra. The Longnecks turned, snarls plastered upon their faces as she outstretched her wings and called upon as much breath as she could muster.

Her wings glowed, casting stunning fractals throughout the glacial valley. The light was enough to illuminate most of the canyon, stopping many of the opposing Beasts in their tracks.

Enamored, she thought, seeing their awestruck faces.

She hurriedly shook out her wings and roared at the startled Longnecks, sending a blazing ball of light from deep within her chest directly at them. They scattered, a massive singe mark left on the ice in their wake.

Solace ran as fast as her thin, wiry legs would carry her. She pitched herself through the darkness, her marigold colored tail waving wildly behind her. Fire and ice blasted throughout the glaciers, echoing off the steep cliff sides. The cacophonous sounds had her shaking from head to tail.

Never in her comparatively short life had she ever been so afraid. The glow of magic throughout the canyon was almost overwhelming.

An icy blast knocked Solace aside, throwing her against the canyon wall. Icy crystals fell from the wall, bruising her thin body. Some crystals dug deeply into her skin, drawing blood. She struggled to stand, shaking the icy crystals out of her fur. She fought to produce enough breath to heal herself.

Something cracked down along her spine, causing Solace to fall once again to the slick floor. She dug her claws into the rough ice and glared upwards to meet her attacker. It was a Centaur, a cream palomino. It had a long spear trained towards her chest, a longbow strapped to it's back, ready for use.

Solace snarled, prepared to stand and fight. She wouldn't have enough time to generate enough breath before the Centaur gored her. She hissed a warning, preparing to stand and-

A high-pitched ringing filled the canyon, followed by a deep rumbling roar, vibrating her very bones. Both the Centaur and Solace averted their gaze towards the sky, looking for what caused the noise.

A loud crack echoed throughout the canyon and a blinding flash of blue light flew towards Solace, aimed from the south. She screamed, throwing her wings over the top of herself in order to yield some protection. The icy color hit the permafrost with a loud crackle, detonating on impact.

Solace carefully pulled her wing away from her head and saw the Centaur encased in a monstrous mound of ice, a good fifteen feet away from where it had last been. The new ice seemed to have become a glacier of its own, creating a large fissure from where the force of the blast had pushed it through the permafrost layer.

Where the Centaur had formerly stood, a monstrous Skydancer now stood in it's place. His fur had grown somewhat shaggy and unkempt, the flint color shifting in a petal pattern. His icy blue eyes were trained on the ice blast, a snarl on his face. He was illuminated by the blazing fires behind him, casting brick colored shadows from his own wings on the walls.

The Skydancer turned his head towards Solace. She was frozen in shock seeing, his face up close.

He had a thin array of cracks running through his gemstone in his forehead. No wonder he looked so apathetic. Skydancers felt empathy for others through their gems.

The Skydancer dropped his snarl, bending down to eye level with Solace. He inspected her for a moment, taking in her mage attire.

"Are you a mage for hire?" he growled, a low, non-threatening tone in his voice. Solace nodded quickly. He huffed and straightened, reaching around his armor to grab something.

A small burlap bag of what sounded like gold landed at her feet. It was stained with blood and singed around the edges, but the sound was unmistakable. She looked up at the male in shock.

"I'll hire you," he hissed, a puff of steam rising from his nostrils. He turned quickly, ready to rejoin the fight.

Solace followed.
