|| Background
Fathom was hatched in the Crashing Waves Inn, to the innkeeper Wave Speaker and her companion, the deep-sea monster Cthullo. By the time the young Fae broke free of their egg, their mother was already beginning to descend to the throes of madness, and Cthullo had never been a dragon in their entirety, born to something darker and deeper. Perhaps it was their heritage that dictated the hatchling's future; or perhaps it was something innate.

Either way, growing up in the deeply pious Water Flight— one that would quickly become broken in the absence of their god— left a clear mark on Fathom. One of the few of the pair's hatchlings that did not get called by the Tidelord, Fathom instead remained, a strangely quiet and creepy figure even for a Fae. Despite that, however, they showed promise in the Water magic of their hatching, and were far along in training to become an oracle. In another life, perhaps, they might have been a truly gifted Seer.

However, the Tidelord did not stay, and it broke Wave Speaker entirely. As her grief and paranoia began to transform her into something dark, behind the scenes, Fathom began to change as well. Feeling scorned by their god, Fathom began to turn away from their path, foregoing the journey to becoming a Seer and finding their attentions captured by a much more forbidden arcane power. Isolating themself entirely, Fathom became obsessed with necromancy.

The book that changed their life was obtained by chance, left behind by one of the Inn's visitors. It detailed an ancient necromantic cult, hidden below a crater and lost to time. Upon learning of this, Fathom knew where they wanted to be, and spent days researching clans in the Starfall Isles until they found a match. No one knew they had gone until Cthullo checked on their child and found their room empty, containing nothing but a cold nest and a scattering of amethyst shards.

|| Current
When Fathom arrived at Rara Avis, they found Apotelesmatis born anew, the recent emergence of Starstone having roused the Lord and his right hand from their magically induced slumber. Fathom instantly threw themself on the ground in front of them and pledged their eternal loyalty, if only Tiarnan would teach them his ways. He accepted, and Fathom became the first of Apotelesmatis' new acolytes.

Now with peers and some experience, Fathom still sticks out in the new ranks of the cult. They are feverishly devoted in a way that cannot be matched by their fellows, an obsession that only gets deeper and more sinister over time. As Fathom learns, it seems that they become more formless, their abyssal heritage shining through their scales. And still, they want more, more, more. A pit so deep that it can never be filled.

|| Notes
◈ Due to their heritage, Fathom is very bioluminescent, and glows teal in the dark in a series of spots along their wings and spine.
◈ Fathom is completely unaware of their mother's fate and what she committed before her death. They haven't remained in contact with anyone from their childhood.
◈ Scuttle is the only thing, other than treasure and food, that Fathom brought from the Sea of a Thousand Currents. They care for the megashrimp in their private quarters.
◈ Despite their feverish obsession, Fathom is one of the least skilled of the acolytes.
