Her father tells her that she was born smiling, her eyes shining as bright as the stars above her. He says that he knew she was special from the moment he first saw her.

She became infatuated with the stars and the way they sparkled just for her. Every night she was found curled up underneath the sky, her head tilted ever so slightly up so that she could gaze upon the beauties of the galaxy she loved so much. When she started to notice the patterns that flowed between them, however, she began to study them more intently.

The heavens would open up for her, allowing her to read from within them. They spoke of possible futures, of events, of times that could be. They taught her how to bend the stars so that she could search for the answers to the questions she may ask.

Altaira uses her divine knowledge as protection for the sake of her loved ones. She warns them of any upcoming dangers and prevents mistakes before they can happen. She does not rely on the stars for everything, but she works with them.

When her clan grows low on necessary funds, she takes it upon herself to travel a short distance and sell her knowledge (with the heavens blessing) to dragons who may ask for it, so long as they only seek it for pure reasons. When they ask for answers to questions that seek to harm others, she refuses to search for them.

She takes great pride in her relationship with the stars and feels closer to them than she could any other dragon. When asked if she ever intends to find a mate, she tells them that she has already found one in the heavens.

Her bond with her father is as strong as it can be. They trust each other completely and are able to confide in each other about nearly everything. The only subject that has ever waivered them was the topic of Altaira's mother. When she asks about her, her father grows silent and weary, refusing to say anything more than "She left." Over time she has learned not to question him about it anymore. She is aware that the stars could give her the answer that she seeks, but she comes to find that she no longer wants to know.

Lyra has never been anything but kind and motherly to Altaira, despite her not actually being Altaira's mother. She has grown to think of her as her step-mother of sorts, and loves her as such. When in need of comforting, she knows who to go to.

Her father may not completely approve of her friendship with Scorpius yet, but she has seen who he truly is deep down. Despite his rough stone walls and brash exterior, she knows that inside he's just lost and trying to find a connection to ground himself to. She hopes that she can be that connection.
