ShadowFire grew up being taught that one must fight to survive in this world, and only those that fought well were worthy of admiration or recognition. For years, he was trained by his clan’s best warriors, and found that claw-to-claw combat came naturally to him. But after annihilating beastclans and dragon clans alike alongside his fellow soldiers, ShadowFire began to see the truth: there was no glory in ending life. At least not for him. The Pearlcatcher sunk into a deep depression, fueled by guilt for all the creatures he had killed and for not living up to his clanmates’ expectations.

And one day, he just couldn’t take it anymore. He boldly approached his clan’s leader and made his intentions clear: he refused to become a killing machine at her command. The leader laughed in his face. She told him that only cowards could not see the glory in their great purpose, and when ShadowFire tried to protest, she exiled him on the spot.

ShadowFire has lived on his own ever since. When most clans hear about his troubled past, they want nothing to do with him, and any potential mates are either scared away or wary of someone who once belonged to an elite warrior clan. But ShadowFire is content. He lives his life by his own rules and creed, and doesn’t take orders from anyone else. He still has hope that one day he’ll find a clan who isn’t afraid of his past, but until then, he’ll find his own way to survive.
