This singularity of meaning--I was my face, I was ugliness--though sometimes unbearable, also offered a possible point of escape. It became the launching pad from which to lift off, the one immediately recognizable place to point to when asked what was wrong with my life. |

A thirst for activity had been the cause of the ice hatchling joining plague ones in a fun game. A game most had enjoyed in their youth, possibly still do, that involved nudging the ball about a certain area and preventing it from passing a certain point. Once the ball had passed the respective goal line, a point would be gained. At a point during the game, the young skydancer had nudged the ball toward a dar, secluded area within the refuge. all of the hatchlings had frozen, the ice-born skydancer had lowered herself to the ground in hopes of not disturbing the shadow-dweller's rest. In truth, the ball had bumped against the atrocities paw, making them flick their ear. None saw them often, so hatchlings were unaware of who, more so what, was living in the shadows. Outline barely recognizable, "Do not pester her." the plague-speaker had warned them. The plague hatchlings retreated to their mothers, and the skydancer had simply crawled backwards in hope to not be advanced upon by whatever abomination lived within the shadowy corner in whence the ball had gone. It was a simple game, a game that was meant to not bring any harm. Surely, none would come. A nudge was given from the clan's alchemist toward the shadow, and the hatchling turned her attention to him, worry within her eyes. The alchemist gestured to the shadows once more, and the hatchling stood up uneasily. With great caution, she eased forward, tiny paws patting on the ground with each step. Eyes opened within the shadows, emitting a faint glow, but only briefly were such eyes opened. The hatchling relaxed slightly upon seeing that this being was of Ice origin, only a few paces from the shadow now. The being stirred, the hatchling's fear returning at full blast, seeing that the being was truly an abomination. Antlers protruded from the dragons head, feathered antennae along with it. A violet gembond adorned their whole form, and the hatchling lowered herself more toward the ground. The warped being had raised their head from up off where it had rested, eyes blinking open with the familiar icy glow. The atrocity had turned their head toward where the ball had gone, heaving themself up off the ground over to the ball, nudging it toward the hatchling. Out from the shadows did the ball roll, and the hatchling watched it do so, blinking at it, then up to the dragon, whom she had determined was a pearlcatcher. The hatchling perked up, nudging the ball back over to play with the hatchling she had played with before. From within the shadows, the abomination had sat down, watching them for several moments before returning to her rest, contented.
