-The low surges of magic accompanying the reemergence of gaolers caused mutations in the hive nests, rendering several eggs and hivemembers hatched during the period inviable. They hatched disconnected from the wavelength, and with strange features and improperly implemented code. Dead, catatonic, and otherwise faulty hivemembers are disposed of in the deep waters surrounding the Crystalspine Reaches, as was the case with these nests.

-Gaolers, as a species, hunt mainly under the ice, grabbing seals, penguins, and polar bears as they dive into the water. Even non water-aligned gaolers can hold their breath for an astonishing amount of time.

-When this faulty hivemember was disposed of into the water, it survived for just long enough to be noticed and rescued by a nearby dragon clan. It will never be a fully functioning, sapient dragon, but its introduction to the clan and support from its familiar has drastically improved its autonomy.
